The Arena

Kaguya Otsutsuki came to Earth looking for Goku, the Saiyan who had escaped her dimensions, and found his son instead, sitting in a university library reading about ancient plants. Gohan looked up from his book at the pale goddess with three eyes and swallowed. “Um. Can I help you?”

“You carry his power,” Kaguya said. “The one who escaped me.” Gohan put down his book slowly. “You mean my dad?” Kaguya raised her hand. “I will not make the same mistake twice.” The library vanished. Gohan found himself standing in an endless desert, the air heavy, the gravity a hundred times stronger than Earth’s.

Kaguya had learned from her defeat. This time, she had a plan.

Round One

Gohan powered up, his hair flashing gold, and charged across the desert. Kaguya opened a portal in front of him, and he flew straight into a dimension of ice, then another of lava, then back to the desert, all in the space of a single breath. He landed hard, disoriented. She had not even let him reach her.

He tried Instant Transmission, the technique his father had used to escape her. But Gohan had never fully mastered it, and in her dimensions, with energy signatures warping and bending, he could not lock onto anything. He was trapped.

Kaguya watched from a distance, calm and patient. “Your father taught you to fight,” she said. “But not to escape.”

The Turn

Gohan’s frustration began to build, and with it, his power. His aura crackled with lightning. Super Saiyan Two. His hidden potential, the power that had defeated Cell, began to wake up, and the desert itself trembled.

Kaguya had read his father’s memories in the brief moment they had fought. She knew what Gohan became when he was truly angry, and she had no intention of letting it happen. Before his rage could peak, she switched dimensions again, and again, and again, a hundred times in ten seconds, never letting him settle.

Gohan was thrown from ice to fire to desert to ocean until he could not tell which way was up. His anger turned to confusion. His power began to fade.

The Finish

In the confusion, Kaguya struck. A single bone spear, fired from her palm, grazed Gohan’s arm. The ash began to spread across his skin, slowly, and Gohan felt his ki draining with it. He tried to fly, and could not. He sank to his knees in the gravity desert, his hair turning black.

Kaguya walked toward him. Then she stopped. She looked at the young man kneeling in the sand, his glasses cracked, his arm turning to ash, and thought of her own sons. She raised her hand, and the ash stopped spreading.

“Tell your father,” Kaguya said, “that the Rabbit Goddess learns from her mistakes.” She sent Gohan back to his library, alive, the ash on his arm slowly fading. Goku came to see him that night. Gohan told him everything. For once, Goku did not grin and ask if she was strong. He just said, quietly, “Next time, we fight her together.”

The verdict

Kaguya Otsutsuki wins

Gohan’s hidden power is immense when he gets angry, but Kaguya learned from fighting Goku: she never lets Gohan settle, his Instant Transmission is not strong enough to escape, and a single ash bone ends it.

  • Dimension controlKaguya never lets Gohan reach her or settle long enough to power up.
  • LearningShe uses what she learned from her defeat by Goku.
  • Ash bonesA single graze drains Gohan’s ki.

How the rematch could go differently: A Gohan who reached his Beast form before Kaguya could drag him into her dimensions would overwhelm her.
