The Arena
Aizen had transcended the Soul Society, become something beyond a Soul Reaper, and grown bored. He began to search for a being worthy of his attention. He found a rift into the Dark Dimension, a realm of shifting purple and black, and stepped through it with his sword in hand and a calm smile on his face.
A vast face of fire appeared in the sky. “Another one comes to bargain,” Dormammu’s voice boomed through the entire dimension. Aizen smiled up at it. “I did not come to bargain. I came to see if you are worth the trouble of defeating.” The fire roared. Dormammu had heard that boast before, from far greater beings.
Aizen drew his sword, Kyoka Suigetsu. In the Soul Society, everyone who saw it was trapped in his illusions forever. He held it up to the fiery face.
Round One
Aizen released Kyoka Suigetsu’s complete hypnosis, the illusion that controls every sense of anyone who sees the blade. Dormammu saw it. And nothing happened. Dormammu had no eyes in the human sense. He was a being of pure mystic energy, and the Dark Dimension was his body. There was nothing for the illusion to deceive.
Aizen frowned for the first time in centuries. Dormammu laughed, and the dimension itself attacked: purple flames rising from every direction, tendrils of darkness reaching for him. Aizen cut through them with his sword and blasted them with kido, the demon arts of the Soul Reapers, and for a while he held them off.
He fired Kurohitsugi, the black coffin, a spell that crushes anything inside it. It closed around a section of the dimension. The dimension simply flowed out of it.
The Turn
Aizen let his true power out, his body transforming, wings of white energy spreading behind him, his spiritual pressure crushing everything around him. He was a being who had surpassed both Soul Reapers and Hollows. In any other realm, he would have been almost unstoppable.
But the Dark Dimension answered to Dormammu, and in it, Dormammu was effectively infinite. Every attack Aizen made, the dimension absorbed. Every wound he dealt, the dimension healed. Dormammu was not fighting inside his realm. He was the realm.
Aizen realised, slowly, that he had walked into the stomach of a god.
The Finish
Dormammu closed the dimension around him. Purple fire wrapped Aizen from every side, pressing inward, consuming his spiritual pressure. Aizen fought with everything he had, his wings blazing, his blade cutting through the flames, but there was no end to them. There was no end to anything in the Dark Dimension.
Finally, his power exhausted, Aizen hung in the darkness, held in place by the fire, unable to move. The vast face appeared before him. “You came to see if I was worthy,” Dormammu said. “Now you know.”
Aizen looked up at the face and smiled, even now. “Impressive,” he said. “But you cannot leave this place, can you? You are a king of a prison.” The flames roared. Dormammu did not answer. He cast Aizen back through the rift into his own world, defeated, and spent the next century brooding over the one thing the manipulator had seen in a single glance.
The verdict
Dormammu wins
Aizen is a master manipulator whose illusions trap gods in his world, but Dormammu has no human senses to deceive, and in the Dark Dimension he is the realm itself, effectively infinite.
- No senses to foolComplete hypnosis needs eyes; Dormammu is pure energy.
- Home dimensionIn the Dark Dimension, Dormammu is all-powerful.

How the rematch could go differently: On Earth, outside the Dark Dimension, Dormammu would be far weaker, and Aizen’s power could genuinely threaten him.
