The Arena
Darkseid opened a Boom Tube over New York, his parademons pouring through, ready to conquer the Marvel Earth. At the same moment, a rift of purple fire opened over the same city, and Dormammu’s flaming face appeared in the sky, ready to swallow the same world into his Dark Dimension.
The two invaders saw each other at once. Darkseid looked up at the giant face of fire and frowned. “This world is mine.” Dormammu laughed, the sound shaking every skyscraper. “This world has been promised to me for a thousand years, little god.” Darkseid’s eyes began to glow.
On the streets below, the heroes of New York looked up at the sky and, for once, decided to let the villains sort it out.
Round One
Dormammu struck first with mystic fire, a wave of flame that consumed half of Darkseid’s parademons in an instant. Darkseid walked through the fire, unharmed, and fired the Omega Beams. They struck Dormammu’s flaming head and erased part of it. Dormammu howled, the sound echoing through dimensions.
He grew larger, the fire spreading across the sky, and tried to pull Darkseid into the Dark Dimension, where Dormammu is all-powerful. A rift opened beneath Darkseid’s feet. Darkseid looked at it, then at Dormammu, and simply did not fall in.
He had seen dimensions before. He ruled one. He had no intention of entering anyone else’s.
The Turn
Dormammu was a nearly all-powerful being in his own realm. But this was Earth, not the Dark Dimension, and here, his power had limits. Darkseid had no such limits. He was as strong on Earth as he was on Apokolips. He fired the Omega Beams again and again, and each one erased another part of the fiery god.
Dormammu retreated toward his rift, trying to drag the fight back into his own dimension. Darkseid followed him to the edge of it and stood there, refusing to cross. “Your power is borrowed from your prison,” he said. “Mine is my own.”
Dormammu screamed and threw everything he had through the rift: fire, chaos, mystic energy.
The Finish
Darkseid took the full blast and stood. Then he raised his hand, and the Omega Beams fired one last time, dozens of them, curving through the sky, through the fire, through every attempt Dormammu made to dodge. They struck the flaming god from every direction at once, and Dormammu’s giant face dissolved into sparks.
What remained of him fled back into the Dark Dimension, and the rift slammed shut behind him, sealed. Darkseid looked down at New York, at the heroes gathered on the rooftops, at the city he had come to conquer.
Then he looked at the damage, the exhaustion of his parademons and the hundred heroes watching him, and decided that this world was not worth the trouble tonight. He stepped back into his Boom Tube. The heroes of New York cheered, not quite sure what had happened, only that both invasions were over.
The verdict
Darkseid wins
Dormammu is nearly all-powerful in the Dark Dimension, but on Earth his power is limited, while Darkseid is just as strong anywhere, and he refuses to be drawn into Dormammu’s realm.
- Home advantage deniedDarkseid refuses to enter the Dark Dimension.
- The Omega EffectIt erases Dormammu’s fiery form piece by piece.
- Consistent powerDarkseid’s strength does not depend on where he stands.
How the rematch could go differently: In the Dark Dimension, Dormammu would be effectively infinite, and Darkseid would be the one in trouble.
