The Arena
Aizen walked into the Great Tomb of Nazarick through a rift, his white robes immaculate, his smile calm, and the floor guardians of Nazarick bowed before him, every one of them, because Aizen had already cast his illusion on them. He walked past them all into the throne room, where a skeleton in black robes sat on a throne of bone.
Ainz looked down at the stranger. His floor guardians were kneeling to someone who was not him. Inside his skull, he panicked. On the outside, he spoke in his deepest voice. “You have charmed my servants. Bold.” Aizen smiled. “And now I will charm you.” He raised his sword, Kyoka Suigetsu, and let Ainz see it.
Ainz saw it. And nothing happened.
Round One
Aizen frowned. Complete hypnosis controls every sense of anyone who sees the blade. It had never failed. But Ainz was undead, and undead are immune to every form of mental manipulation: charm, fear, illusion and hypnosis. His mind simply did not work the way a living mind did.
Ainz realised, slowly, that the stranger’s illusion was not working on him. He did not know why, exactly. But he knew he had to look like he did. “Your tricks are beneath me,” he said grandly. Aizen’s smile tightened.
Aizen attacked with kido, black coffins and lightning, and Ainz countered with tenth-tier magic. The throne room shook, and the floor guardians remained kneeling, still trapped in Aizen’s illusion.
The Turn
Aizen released his true form, wings of light spreading behind him, his spiritual pressure crushing the throne room. Ainz felt it press down on his bones. He had never faced anything so powerful in this world. He did the only thing he could think of. He cast Time Stop.
The world froze. Aizen froze, mid-transformation, wings half spread. Ainz walked around him carefully, studying him, trying to figure out what this being was and how to beat him. He had perhaps ten seconds. He used all of them to place a dozen super-tier spells around Aizen, timed to fire the moment time resumed.
He returned to his throne, sat down, and crossed his legs, as if he had not moved at all. Then he let time start again.
The Finish
A dozen super-tier spells exploded around Aizen at once. He had no time to react, no time to understand. He was thrown across the throne room, his wings shredded, his transformation broken. When the smoke cleared, he lay against the far wall, his sword fallen from his hand, staring at the skeleton on the throne.
“How?” Aizen asked quietly. “My hypnosis has never failed. My power has never been matched.” Ainz paused, desperately trying to think of something impressive to say. “Everything,” he said finally, “is going according to my plan.” Aizen looked at him for a long moment. Then he began to laugh.
“Of course it is,” he said. “That is exactly what I always say.” The floor guardians woke from the illusion, saw Aizen defeated and their master untouched, and wept with admiration. Ainz nodded serenely. Inside, he was simply relieved that it had worked.
The verdict
Ainz Ooal Gown wins
Aizen’s complete hypnosis controls almost any mind, but Ainz is undead and immune to all mental effects, and his Time Stop lets him set up a dozen super-tier spells before Aizen can react.
- Undead immunityComplete hypnosis has no effect on Ainz.
- Time StopAinz prepares an overwhelming attack while time is frozen.
- Super-tier magicA dozen city-destroying spells at once.
How the rematch could go differently: An Aizen who skipped the hypnosis and attacked with his full transformed power from the start could overwhelm Ainz before time stopped.
