The Arena
Dante followed a trail of demons and burning streets to the top of a ruined tower, where a tall man in a long black coat stood looking down at the destruction below, a sword longer than he was tall resting in his hand. Sephiroth turned, and Dante whistled. “Okay. You win the dramatic entrance contest.”
Sephiroth looked at the man in the red coat with mild interest. “You are part demon,” he said. “I can feel it.” Dante shrugged. “Half. My dad was a big deal.” Sephiroth smiled coldly. “Mine was a project.” Dante drew Rebellion. “Wow. Okay. That’s bleak.”
Sephiroth raised the Masamune. The flames rose around the tower, and for a moment, even Dante stopped smiling.
Round One
Sephiroth struck first, and the Masamune’s reach was extraordinary. Dante dodged the first cut, and the second, and the third sliced through his coat. He spun, laughing, and fired Ebony and Ivory. Sephiroth cut the bullets out of the air with a single sweep of the sword.
They fought across the top of the tower, Dante’s chaotic, flashy style against Sephiroth’s cold, perfect precision. Sephiroth landed more cuts. Dante healed them. Dante landed fewer, but each one carried the strength of a demon, and Sephiroth felt every one.
Then Sephiroth raised his hand, and meteors of black fire began to fall from the sky.
The Turn
Sephiroth spread a single black wing and rose into the air, raining magic down on the tower. Dante was driven back, burned and battered, the tower collapsing around him. Sephiroth hovered above him, silver hair flowing in the burning wind, looking down at him with pity.
“You are only half of what you could be,” Sephiroth said. “Embrace the demon. Become something more.” Dante wiped blood from his lip and grinned. “Funny you should say that.” He activated Sin Devil Trigger, and the full power of the son of Sparda erupted out of him.
His body transformed, his wings spreading wider than Sephiroth’s. For the first time, Sephiroth looked uncertain.
The Finish
Dante flew up to meet him, and they clashed in the sky above the burning city, the Masamune against Rebellion. Sephiroth was faster for a moment, then slower. Dante’s demonic power was rising, and it kept rising, and Sephiroth’s strikes began to fall behind.
Dante broke through his guard, knocked the Masamune aside, and drove Sephiroth down through what remained of the tower in a single, devastating blow. Sephiroth lay among the ruins, his black wing broken, staring up at the sky.
Dante landed beside him, dropping out of his Devil Trigger. “You know what your problem is?” he said. “You wanted to be a god. I just wanted pizza.” Sephiroth closed his eyes, and something almost like a laugh escaped him. When Dante looked back a moment later, the silver-haired swordsman had vanished, leaving only a single black feather behind.
The verdict
Dante wins
Sephiroth’s reach, precision and dark magic give him the early advantage, but Dante’s Sin Devil Trigger draws on the full power of the son of Sparda and keeps rising until it outpaces Sephiroth in the air.
- Sin Devil TriggerDante’s demonic power exceeds Sephiroth’s at full strength.
- DurabilityDante heals from Sephiroth’s cuts and magic.
- AdaptabilityHis chaotic style keeps Sephiroth from settling into rhythm.
How the rematch could go differently: A Sephiroth who called down a real Meteor from the start, rather than toying with Dante, could end the fight before the Devil Trigger.
Who do you think wins?
Who would win in a fight between Dante and Sephiroth?
Dante wins. Sephiroth’s reach, precision and dark magic give him the early advantage, but Dante’s Sin Devil Trigger draws on the full power of the son of Sparda and keeps rising until it outpaces Sephiroth in the air.
