The Arena

Dante got a call about a nasty demon in a London cathedral, took the job because the pay was good, and walked in eating a slice of pizza. Sitting on the altar was a tall man in a red coat and a wide-brimmed hat, with too many teeth. Alucard looked at Dante’s red coat and laughed. “I see we have the same tailor.”

Dante finished his pizza and wiped his hands on his coat. “Nice place. Very gothic. You the demon?” Alucard smiled wider. “Vampire, technically.” Dante drew his pistols, Ebony and Ivory. “Close enough.” Alucard drew his own guns, the Jackal and the Casull. “Oh, I do like you.”

They both fired at the same time.

Round One

They emptied their pistols at each other, and bullets flew across the cathedral, shattering stained glass and splintering pews. Both of them were riddled with holes. Both of them kept firing. Dante spun, dodged and flipped over a pew, still shooting. Alucard simply stood there and absorbed every round, laughing.

Dante drew Rebellion, his sword, and closed the distance. He cut Alucard in half at the waist. The two halves laughed, reached for each other and rejoined. Alucard put a Jackal round through Dante’s chest at point-blank range. Dante staggered back, looked at the hole, and grinned. “Ow.”

Alucard tilted his head with great interest. Most men did not say “ow” after that. Most men were dead.

The Turn

Alucard released his restraints, and the cathedral filled with darkness, eyes and mouths everywhere, an army of shadow hounds and devoured souls pouring out of him. Dante looked around at the horde and whistled. “Okay, that’s a lot of dogs.”

Then he activated his Devil Trigger. Demonic power flooded through him, his body changing, wings of red energy bursting from his back. He moved through Alucard’s army like a hurricane, cutting down hounds and shadows by the hundred, laughing and quipping the whole time.

Alucard watched with genuine delight. Nobody had ever enjoyed his army before.

The Finish

Dante cut his way through the horde to Alucard himself, then switched to Sin Devil Trigger, the full power of his demonic heritage. His blade carved through Alucard over and over, faster than the vampire could reform, until Alucard’s thousands of lives were being destroyed faster than they could return.

Alucard pulled himself together one last time, sitting on the altar, half of his body still reforming. He looked at Dante and laughed until he coughed. “Splendid,” he said. “Truly splendid. You have killed me more times in five minutes than anyone in five hundred years.”

Dante dropped out of his Devil Trigger and sat on the steps of the altar, pulling another slice of pizza from his coat. He offered half to Alucard. Alucard looked at it, then took it and ate it. “Terrible,” he said. Dante grinned. “It’s from New York.” They sat in the ruined cathedral, two monsters in red coats, sharing the worst pizza in London.

The verdict

Dante wins

Alucard is almost impossible to kill and his army of souls overwhelms most opponents, but Dante’s Sin Devil Trigger lets him destroy Alucard’s lives faster than they can return.

  • Sin Devil TriggerDante’s full demonic power outpaces Alucard’s regeneration.
  • DurabilityDante shrugs off the Jackal’s rounds.
  • Crowd controlHe carves through Alucard’s army without slowing down.

How the rematch could go differently: An Alucard who used his full Level Zero release from the very first second could bury Dante under the souls before he transformed.
