The Arena
DIO came through a crack in time into a dark manor in London and found it already occupied by another vampire, lounging in a chair, a glass of blood in his hand. The two creatures looked at each other across the room, and the air turned very cold. “How delightful,” said Alucard. “A fledgling.”
DIO’s eyes narrowed. “You dare call me a fledgling? I am DIO! I have stood at the top of the world!” Alucard smiled with far too many teeth. “I have stood there too, boy. It is very lonely, and the view is not as good as you think.”
DIO’s Stand, The World, rose behind him, golden and muscular. Alucard’s smile only grew. “Oh, you have friends. So do I.”
Round One
DIO struck first, The World’s fists hitting Alucard in a rush that tore his body to pieces. Alucard’s head rolled across the floor, still smiling, and reattached itself to his reforming body. DIO stared. He had never seen another vampire regenerate like that.
Alucard drew his pistols and fired. DIO dodged with vampiric speed, but the blessed silver bullets grazed his arm, and it burned. He hissed and backed away. Alucard laughed. “Ah, so you are still afraid of something. Good.”
They tore through the manor, two monsters ripping each other apart, smashing furniture, shattering windows. Neither could stay dead for long.
The Turn
“ZA WARUDO!” DIO stopped time. In the frozen silence, he walked up to Alucard and destroyed him completely: The World punched his body into pieces, DIO hurled knives into every fragment, and then he crushed what was left under a steamroller he found in the street outside. “WRYYYY!”
Time resumed. DIO stood laughing over the ruins of his enemy. And from the wreckage, the darkness began to rise. Eyes. Mouths. Hounds and soldiers and shadows, the thousands of lives Alucard had devoured, each one a life DIO now had to take too.
Alucard reformed in the middle of them, completely unharmed. “That was fun,” he said. “Shall we go again? I have a few thousand more.”
The Finish
DIO stopped time again and again. Each time he killed Alucard, and each time a little of the darkness died with him, and each time there was more darkness left. He was tiring. Stopping time takes a toll even on a vampire, and Alucard had more lives than DIO had seconds.
Finally, DIO stopped time and found that he could not stop it long enough. Alucard’s shadow hounds were already at his throat when time resumed. They dragged him to the floor, and Alucard knelt over him, his hand resting gently on DIO’s chest.
“You fear death,” he said softly. “That is why you stopped time. You want to cheat it forever. I have never feared it once.” He let the hounds release DIO and drew back the curtains. The first light of dawn touched DIO’s skin, and he screamed and fled into the shadows of another dimension, burning, beaten and very much alive. Alucard sipped his blood and watched the sunrise he could never truly enjoy.
The verdict
Alucard wins
DIO’s time stop lets him kill Alucard over and over, but Alucard has thousands of lives and regenerates from anything, so DIO simply runs out of time before Alucard runs out of deaths.
- ImmortalityAlucard’s thousands of lives outlast DIO’s time stops.
- FamiliarsHis shadow army overwhelms DIO once his Stand tires.
- Mental edgeAlucard fears nothing; DIO is driven by fear of death.
How the rematch could go differently: A DIO who studied Alucard’s nature and found a way to erase all his lives at once could win in a single stopped moment.
