The Arena

Gojo Satoru was standing on a rooftop in Shibuya eating a crepe when a tall, pale figure with a halo of light and a long staff floated down beside him and politely asked where he had bought it. Gojo lifted his blindfold and looked at the stranger with his Six Eyes. Then he dropped the crepe.

For the first time in his life, Gojo could not see the limits of someone’s power. He saw energy so vast it filled his entire field of vision, calm and endless as the ocean. “Who are you?” he asked. Whis smiled. “An angel. I teach a god of destruction to fight. Mostly I come to Earth for the food.”

Gojo grinned, slowly, the grin of someone who has been bored his whole life. “Wanna spar?” Whis tilted his head. “If you insist.”

Round One

Gojo activated Infinity, the endless space that stops anything from touching him, and attacked with Blue, a sphere of attraction that crushed the air around Whis. Whis drifted out of its pull as if stepping off a moving walkway. Gojo fired Red, a burst of repulsion. Whis turned his staff slightly, and the blast curved around him.

Then Whis tapped Gojo on the shoulder with his staff. Gojo froze. Infinity should have stopped the staff a hair’s width away. It had not. The staff had moved through the infinite space as though it were not there, and Gojo had felt the touch.

“That’s impossible,” Gojo said quietly. Whis smiled. “Many things are, until you learn them.”

The Turn

Gojo crossed his fingers. “Domain Expansion. Infinite Void.” The rooftop vanished, replaced by an endless space flooding the mind with infinite information, a technique that had paralysed the strongest beings in Gojo’s world. It washed over Whis completely.

Whis looked around the void with mild curiosity, as though visiting a museum. “What a pretty space,” he said. “Very busy.” Angels process information on a scale far beyond mortals. Infinite information was simply information. He reached out and tapped the edge of the domain with his staff, and Infinite Void cracked like an eggshell and shattered.

Gojo stood on the rooftop again, staring at the angel, and began to laugh. He had never been so outclassed in his life, and he had never been so happy.

The Finish

Gojo used everything he had: Hollow Purple, a combination of Blue and Red that erases anything in its path. It roared toward Whis and he caught it with one hand, examined it, and let it fizzle out between his fingers. Then he tapped Gojo very gently on the forehead.

Gojo sat down on the rooftop, his legs suddenly unwilling to hold him. He was not hurt. He had simply been told, by a single touch, that the fight was over. Whis sat down beside him and picked up the dropped crepe, which he had saved before it hit the ground. “Is this strawberry?”

Gojo laughed until he cried. “You know,” he said, “I’ve always been the strongest. It’s really lonely.” Whis nodded and took a bite of the crepe. “It is,” he said. “That is why one takes students.” He offered Gojo the rest of the crepe. Gojo took it, and for the first time in years, did not feel alone at the top.

The verdict

Whis wins

Gojo is untouchable in his own world, but Whis is an angel whose power exceeds gods of destruction, his staff passes through Infinity, and he shatters Infinite Void without being affected by it.

  • Angelic powerAngels are stronger than the gods they serve.
  • Passing InfinityWhis touches Gojo as if Infinity were not there.
  • Information processingInfinite Void has no effect on an angel’s mind.

How the rematch could go differently: There is no version of Gojo in canon who could threaten an angel, but he would never stop trying, which is exactly why Whis likes him.

Who do you think wins?

Who would win in a fight between Whis and Satoru Gojo?

Whis wins. Gojo is untouchable in his own world, but Whis is an angel whose power exceeds gods of destruction, his staff passes through Infinity, and he shatters Infinite Void without being affected by it.
