The Arena

Barry Allen ran so fast one night that he ran out of his own world and into the middle of a silent Shibuya crossing, every screen dark, every street empty. Standing in the middle of the road with his hands in his pockets was a tall man in a black blindfold who turned his head toward Barry before Barry had finished stopping.

“You’re fast,” said Satoru Gojo, sounding genuinely impressed. “Really fast. Want to see if it matters?” Barry, who had raced Superman and outrun death itself, grinned. “I usually win this kind of thing.” Gojo’s smile widened. “So do I.”

Barry decided to end it nicely: one quick tap to knock the blindfolded man off balance, then a conversation. He crossed the intersection in less time than it takes light to do it.

Round One

His fist stopped a hair away from Gojo’s cheek. Not blocked. Stopped, as if the distance between them had become infinite. Barry tried again from the other side, and from above, and from behind, a thousand punches in a single second. Every one of them hung in the air just short of its target, slowing forever and never arriving.

Gojo had not moved. “That’s Infinity,” he explained helpfully. “Space between us that keeps dividing. You can be as fast as you like. You’ll just get infinitely close.” Barry stepped back, vibrating with frustration, and thought about it at the speed of thought.

Then Gojo pointed a finger, said “Blue,” and a sphere of attraction ripped the street in half and pulled Barry toward it so hard he barely tore free.

The Turn

Barry tried everything he knew. He ran circles around Gojo until a cyclone tore the signs off buildings, but the wind could not reach him either. He vibrated his molecules to phase through Infinity, and for a breathtaking instant his fingertips crossed the barrier and brushed Gojo’s coat. Gojo’s eyebrows rose above the blindfold. Nobody had done that before.

He took the blindfold off. His Six Eyes saw everything, even the Speed Force, tracing Barry’s path before he took it. “Red,” he said, and a burst of repulsion caught Barry mid-step and threw him through three buildings.

Barry got up, ribs aching, and ran again. He was still the faster one. But speed, he was starting to realise, only matters if you can arrive.

The Finish

Gojo held up his hand and crossed his fingers. “Domain Expansion,” he said softly. “Infinite Void.” The crossing vanished. Barry was suddenly inside an endless space filled with every piece of information in existence, flooding into his mind faster than even the Flash could process it.

For a speedster whose brain runs a million times faster than a normal man’s, it was a nightmare. A million times more to see, to feel, to understand, all at once, forever. Barry froze mid-stride, his eyes wide, his body perfectly still for the first time since the lightning struck him.

Gojo released the domain after a quarter of a second and caught Barry before he hit the ground. “Hey. You’re okay.” Barry blinked up at him, dazed. “That was the longest quarter second of my life,” he whispered. Gojo laughed and helped him up. “You’re the first person who ever touched me through Infinity. Come back when you’ve got a faster trick.”

The verdict

Satoru Gojo wins

Barry is faster than anything in Gojo’s world, but Infinity means speed alone never arrives, and Infinite Void overloads a mind that processes the world a million times faster than anyone else.

  • InfinityNo matter how fast Barry moves, the space between them never closes.
  • Six EyesGojo can track even the Speed Force once the blindfold comes off.
  • Infinite VoidEndless information is especially devastating to a speedster’s brain.

How the rematch could go differently: With prep and a way to phase through Infinity reliably, the Flash could land the one hit he needs before the domain opens.
