The Arena

Homelander was filming a promotional video above a city skyline, smiling for the camera, when a bolt of lightning came out of a clear sky and a man in black and gold appeared in the air in front of him. Teth-Adam had come through a rift chasing a tyrant, and recognised one immediately.

“You pretend to protect these people,” Black Adam said, his voice carrying across the sky. “But I can smell their fear of you.” Homelander’s smile didn’t move. “And who the hell are you?” Adam folded his arms. “The one who decides what happens to men like you.”

Homelander laughed, turned to the camera and said, “Folks, I’m going to deal with this terrorist.” Then his eyes began to glow red.

Round One

Homelander fired his heat vision straight at Adam’s chest. Adam took it with a grunt, his skin smoking but unbroken, and flew straight through the beam to land a punch that sent Homelander spinning through a skyscraper. Glass rained down onto the streets. Homelander came back out of the building furious, his cape torn, a bruise forming on his perfect face.

They fought across the sky at supersonic speed, trading blows that rattled windows for miles. Homelander was strong, brutally so, but he had always fought people who could not hurt him. Every time Adam’s fist connected, he flinched in a way that had nothing to do with pain and everything to do with shock.

Adam noticed. He started hitting harder.

The Turn

Homelander grabbed Adam by the throat and drove him through four city blocks and into the ground. He stood over him, heat vision charging, ready to burn a hole through his head. For a moment, it looked as if his raw strength would decide it.

Adam looked up at him and said one word. “SHAZAM.” The magic lightning came down from the sky, struck Adam, and arced into Homelander. It was not electricity. It was the power of gods, and Homelander’s body, built in a lab by Vought, had no defence against it at all.

He staggered back, screaming, his nerves on fire. For the first time in his life he was genuinely hurt, and he did not know what to do with it.

The Finish

Adam rose from the crater, lightning crackling around his fists, and hit Homelander again. And again. The perfect hero tried to fly away, and Adam caught him by the cape. He tried heat vision, and Adam took it and kept coming. Homelander’s face changed from rage to something he had never shown the public: fear.

Adam drove him down into the street, in front of the cameras and the crowd and every person who had ever been afraid of him, and pinned him there with a hand on his chest. “Look at them,” Adam said. “This is what they see when they look at you.” Homelander stared back, shaking.

Adam lifted him by the collar and flew away into the sky, toward a prison in Kahndaq built for gods. The crowd below did not cheer. They were not sure yet whether they had been saved or had simply traded one terrifying man for another, and Black Adam did not mind either way.

The verdict

Black Adam wins

Homelander and Black Adam are close in raw strength and speed, but Adam has centuries of combat experience and magic lightning that a lab-made body cannot resist, and Homelander crumbles the first time he is truly hurt.

  • MagicShazam’s lightning bypasses Homelander’s durability.
  • ExperienceAdam has fought gods; Homelander has mostly fought people who could not fight back.
  • Mental strengthHomelander breaks down the first time he is genuinely threatened.

How the rematch could go differently: If Homelander struck first with full force while Adam was still speaking, his heat vision could end it before the lightning ever fell.
