The Arena
A crack opened in the sky over Themyscira’s outer cliffs, and a pale, ash-covered man stepped through it carrying two chained blades that still smelled of burning. Diana knew the stories her mother had told her about another world, where a Spartan had climbed Olympus and left no god standing. She had always assumed they were warnings, not history.
Kratos looked at the Amazon armour, the golden lasso, the eagle on her chest, and his jaw tightened. Everything about her said Olympus. “You serve the gods,” he said. Diana shook her head slowly. “I serve the people the gods were meant to protect.” Kratos drew the Blades of Chaos anyway. In his experience, the difference never lasted.
Thunder rolled over the sea. Diana set her feet on the cracked marble, raised her bracelets, and decided that if this man wanted a fight, she would give him one worthy of both their worlds.
Round One
Kratos opened with the Blades of Chaos, whipping them out on their chains in wide burning arcs that cut pillars in half. Diana deflected the first with her bracelets in a shower of sparks, ducked the second and closed the distance in a single bound, driving her shoulder into his chest. The Spartan slid back ten metres across the temple floor, leaving grooves in the stone.
He answered with a punch that would have flattened a cyclops. Diana caught it on crossed forearms, felt the shock run all the way down into her heels, and smiled in spite of herself. It had been a long time since anyone hit her that hard.
They traded blows in the rain like two old soldiers testing each other, neither giving ground. Every strike cracked the marble beneath them.
The Turn
Kratos switched to the Leviathan Axe, hurling it with frost spreading from the blade, and caught Diana across the ribs as it spun back to his hand. She dropped to one knee, ice forming on her armour. He came down on her with both blades, the same way he had come down on Ares, and Zeus, and Hera.
Diana rolled under the strike and threw the lasso. The golden rope wrapped around his arm and chest, and the glow sank into him. Kratos roared and pulled, strong enough to drag her across the floor, but the lasso does not bind the body. It binds the lie.
“Why do you fight?” she asked quietly. And Kratos, who had never once answered that question honestly, heard himself say: “Because I do not know how to stop.”
The Finish
The truth hit him harder than any god ever had. His grip on the blades loosened. Diana did not take the opening to strike him down. She pulled the lasso tight, swept his legs and pinned him face-first against the marble with her knee in his back and her full Amazonian strength holding him there.
He struggled for a long moment, then went still. The rain washed the ash from his shoulders in grey streaks. “Finish it,” he growled. Diana let the lasso slacken. “No,” she said. “That is what the gods would have done. I am not them.”
She helped him to his feet. They stood at the edge of the cliff together and watched the storm move out to sea, the Spartan who had destroyed Olympus and the princess who had chosen to be better than it. Neither of them said anything for a long time. Neither of them needed to.
The verdict
Wonder Woman wins
Kratos hits as hard as anyone Diana has ever faced, but she matches his strength and skill, has divine durability of her own, and the Lasso of Truth strips away the rage that drives him at the decisive moment.
- The Lasso of TruthIt cuts through Kratos’s rage and forces him to face why he fights.
- Even strengthDiana can trade blows with a god-killer and keep standing.
- Mercy as strategyShe refuses to fight him the way the gods did, and it disarms him.
How the rematch could go differently: A Kratos in full Spartan Rage who never let the lasso land would turn this into a brutal coin toss.
