The Arena
Gojo Satoru wandered into Xavier’s School through a rift, eating a doughnut, and immediately noticed that every student there had a strange energy, not cursed energy, but something else. He found the headmaster in the library: a bald man in a wheelchair, reading. Charles Xavier looked up and smiled. “Welcome, Mr. Gojo. I have been expecting you.”
Gojo lifted his blindfold and looked at him with his Six Eyes. “You knew I was coming.” Xavier closed his book. “I felt your mind the moment you arrived. It is a very loud mind. Very proud. And very lonely.” Gojo’s smile froze for just a moment. Nobody had ever read him that easily.
“You’re a sorcerer?” Gojo asked. Xavier shook his head. “A telepath. And I am afraid you are about to discover that your Infinity has a gap.”
Round One
Gojo laughed and activated Infinity. “Nothing can reach me,” he said, his voice light. “Physical attacks, cursed techniques, everything stops just short of my skin.” Xavier nodded thoughtfully. “Physical attacks, yes. But I am not attacking your body.”
Gojo felt it: a presence in his mind, gentle and enormous, like a tide coming in. Infinity stops anything from reaching his body. It does nothing to stop a thought. Xavier’s telepathy had slipped past every defence Gojo had without touching any of them.
Gojo staggered, his hand going to his head. For the first time in his life, someone had reached him.
The Turn
Gojo did not panic. He gathered Blue and Red in his hands and combined them into Hollow Purple, a technique that erases anything in its path, and aimed it straight at the man in the wheelchair. Xavier did not move. He simply reached deeper into Gojo’s mind.
Gojo found himself standing in the library with a sphere of purple energy in his hand and absolutely no idea why he was holding it. He looked at it, confused, then at the kind old man across the room. The reason he had been fighting had been gently lifted out of his thoughts, like a book returned to a shelf.
The Hollow Purple fizzled out in his hand. Gojo stared at it. “What… did you do?”
The Finish
Gojo tried to open his domain, Infinite Void, and found that his hands would not form the sign. His body was his, but his mind was being gently guided, and Xavier did not need to do anything cruel to win. He simply asked Gojo’s mind to sit down. Gojo sat down in a library chair.
Xavier wheeled closer and released him, slowly, completely. Gojo sat there, blinking, his mind entirely his own again. “I’ve never lost,” he said quietly. “Not once. Not to anyone.” Xavier smiled kindly. “You have never fought anyone who did not try to touch you.”
Gojo started laughing, really laughing, until he had to take off his blindfold and wipe his eyes. “You’d be a great teacher,” he said. Xavier raised an eyebrow. “I am a teacher.” Gojo grinned. “Me too. Want to compare notes?” They talked about their students until the sun came up, and Gojo did not use Infinity once.
The verdict
