The Arena

Sasuke Uchiha was travelling between dimensions with his Rinnegan, searching for threats, when he arrived in Central City and sensed something strange: an energy that moved faster than anything he had ever felt. He followed it to a rooftop and found a man in a red suit with a lightning bolt on his chest, eating a burger.

Barry Allen looked up and waved. “Hey! You’re new. Nice cloak.” Sasuke said nothing. His Sharingan spun, analysing the man, reading his body, his speed, his energy. The Speed Force was unlike anything in his world. “You are fast,” Sasuke said. Barry finished his burger. “Fastest man alive. You want to see?”

Sasuke drew his sword. Barry sighed. “Okay, that’s a yes, I guess.”

Round One

Barry moved, and Sasuke’s Sharingan tracked him, barely, a red blur crossing the rooftop. Sasuke swung his sword at the place Barry would be, a perfect prediction, and Barry was not there anymore. He had changed direction faster than the Sharingan could follow. A punch landed on Sasuke’s jaw from behind.

Sasuke turned, lightning crackling around his blade, Chidori, and struck again. Barry dodged it, then dodged it again, a thousand times in a second. Sasuke’s eyes could see Barry’s movements. His body could not move fast enough to respond.

Barry landed a hundred light punches in the time it took Sasuke to raise his sword. “Sorry,” Barry said. “That probably stung.”

The Turn

Sasuke used Amenotejikara, the Rinnegan’s power to swap places instantly with anything within range. He swapped with a rock behind Barry, appearing at his back with his sword already swinging. It was perfect. It had defeated gods.

Barry was already gone. He had seen Sasuke’s eye shift a fraction of a second before the swap, and at the speed of the Flash, a fraction of a second is an eternity. Sasuke’s blade hit empty air. Barry appeared on the other side of the rooftop, finishing a second burger he had gone and bought in the meantime.

Sasuke stared at him. For the first time since the war, he was facing an opponent his eyes could not save him from.

The Finish

Sasuke summoned his Susanoo, a towering purple giant, and swung its enormous sword at the rooftop. Barry ran up the Susanoo’s arm, around its shoulders and across its face, vibrating his hand so fast it phased through the chakra armour, and tapped Sasuke on the forehead from inside.

The Susanoo faded. Sasuke dropped to one knee, stunned, Barry standing in front of him. “You’re really good,” Barry said honestly. “Your eyes can almost keep up with me. Almost nobody can do that.” Sasuke looked up at him. “Almost,” he said bitterly. Barry grinned and offered his hand. “Almost is pretty great, trust me.”

Sasuke did not take the hand. But he did not leave either. Barry sat down on the edge of the roof and offered him a burger. After a long silence, Sasuke took it. It was, he admitted later to Naruto, quite good. Naruto never let him forget it.

The verdict

The Flash wins

Sasuke’s Sharingan and Rinnegan can track almost anything and swap positions instantly, but the Flash moves so fast that seeing his movements is not enough, and he reacts to Sasuke’s eyes before Sasuke can act.

  • SpeedBarry’s speed exceeds anything Sasuke’s body can respond to.
  • Reaction timeHe sees the Rinnegan shift before the swap happens.
  • PhasingBarry vibrates through the Susanoo’s armour.

How the rematch could go differently: A Sasuke who trapped Barry in a genjutsu with a single glance, before he started running, could win before the race began.
