The Arena
Rock Lee came through a portal into a prison courtyard on a tropical island and found a giant masked man doing pull-ups on a steel bar, his Venom tubes pumping. Bane dropped to the ground and looked at the boy in the green jumpsuit with interest. “A child,” he said. “Who trains.”
Lee bowed deeply. “I am Rock Lee of the Hidden Leaf! I cannot use ninjutsu or genjutsu, so I have made my body my only weapon!” Bane’s eyes narrowed behind his mask. He had been born in this prison and built his body from nothing. “Then we are the same,” he said. “Let us see whose body is stronger.”
Lee grinned, his eyes burning with determination. “The power of youth will prevail!”
Round One
Bane attacked with brutal force, his punches backed by years of prison fighting and a dozen martial arts. Lee dodged them with incredible speed, flowing around the giant’s attacks, and countered with a Leaf Hurricane that cracked into Bane’s jaw. Bane staggered, surprised.
He pumped Venom into his veins, and his muscles swelled to twice their size. His next punch hit Lee and sent him flying across the courtyard into the prison wall. Lee got up, bleeding, smiling. “Your strength is incredible!”
Bane studied him as they fought, the way he had studied Batman. He noticed the weights on Lee’s legs. He noticed the boy was holding back.
The Turn
Lee unstrapped the training weights from his legs and dropped them. They hit the courtyard floor and cratered the stone. Bane looked at the craters, then at the boy, and for the first time in years, he felt a flicker of unease.
Then Lee moved, and Bane could not see him. Lee was everywhere at once, striking from every angle, so fast that the sound of his punches arrived after the punches themselves. Bane, for all his strength and tactical genius, was simply too slow. He swung wildly and hit nothing.
Bane pumped more Venom, roaring, his body swelling to monstrous size. Lee opened the first of the Eight Gates.
The Finish
With the Gates open, Lee’s body burned red, his speed and strength multiplying. He kicked Bane into the air, then appeared above him, wrapped him in bandages and drove him down into the courtyard. Primary Lotus. The impact shattered the stone, and when the dust settled, Bane lay in a crater, his Venom tube torn loose.
His muscles shrank back to normal. He lay there, breathing hard, staring up at the boy standing over him. Lee was swaying, his body exhausted from the Gates, but smiling. “You fought magnificently!” Lee said. “Your body is truly strong!”
Bane looked at him for a long time. “I was born in a prison,” he said finally. “Everything I have, I built myself.” Lee nodded seriously. “So did I.” Bane almost smiled. “Then you understand.” They sat in the prison courtyard and talked about training until the guards came. Bane, for once, did not try to escape.
The verdict
Rock Lee wins
Bane is a brilliant tactician whose Venom makes him monstrously strong, but Rock Lee’s speed without his weights is beyond what Bane can follow, and the Eight Gates give him power to finish the fight.
- SpeedWithout his weights, Lee is too fast for Bane to track.
- The Eight GatesThey multiply Lee’s strength at the decisive moment.
- The Venom tubePrimary Lotus tears it loose.
How the rematch could go differently: A Bane who studied Lee for months, as he did with Batman, would find a way to break him before the Gates opened.
