The Arena

Doomsday tore through a rift into Rimuru’s world, roaring, bony spikes bursting from his body, and began smashing everything in sight: trees, rocks, a passing caravan. Rimuru felt the destruction from his city and teleported out to the plain to meet him. He looked at the grey monster with mild concern. “Hey. Can you stop that?”

Doomsday did not stop. He never stops. He charged at the small figure with silver-blue hair, and Rimuru dodged, studying him with his analytical skill, Raphael. The results came back immediately: unknown creature, regenerates stronger after death, adapts to whatever killed it. Raphael added: recommend not killing it.

Rimuru nodded thoughtfully. “Okay. So I don’t kill it.” He smiled. “I just eat it.”

Round One

Doomsday struck, and his punch hit Rimuru so hard the slime’s body exploded into a hundred blue droplets across the plain. Doomsday roared in triumph. Then the droplets flowed back together, and Rimuru reformed, completely unharmed. Doomsday stared. He did not understand. He did not understand anything, but this especially.

He struck again and again, and Rimuru exploded and reformed each time, his slime body absorbing the blows like water absorbs a stone. Rimuru fired black flames, gravity crushing, a spear of ice, testing the monster, careful not to kill it. Doomsday took it all and kept coming.

Rimuru noticed something: every time his attacks did damage, Doomsday’s body adapted, growing new armour where the wound had been.

The Turn

Rimuru stopped attacking. When Doomsday swung his next punch, Rimuru opened his body like a vast dark mouth, Beelzebuth, the Lord of Gluttony, and the punch went straight in. Doomsday’s arm vanished into the slime up to the shoulder. Doomsday pulled back, roaring. His arm did not come back with him.

He waited for it to regenerate. It did not. Doomsday’s resurrection works when he is killed, when his body is destroyed. But his arm had not been destroyed. It had been absorbed, analysed, stored inside Rimuru’s stomach dimension. There was no death to adapt to. There was simply less of Doomsday.

For the first time in his existence, something like fear flickered in the monster’s mindless eyes.

The Finish

Doomsday charged again, desperate, and Rimuru absorbed his other arm, then his legs, then wrapped the rest of him in a vast sphere of slime and swallowed him whole. The plain went quiet. Rimuru stood alone, looking very slightly fuller, and burped politely.

Inside his stomach dimension, Doomsday raged against the walls and could not break them, could not die, could not adapt. Rimuru felt Raphael analysing the creature, learning its secrets. Then, after a moment, he felt something else: the monster was not evil. It was simply built to destroy, with no choice and no mind.

Rimuru sighed. He did not like keeping prisoners. He opened a portal to an empty, lifeless world, far from anywhere, and released Doomsday there, whole again, with nothing to destroy. “Sorry,” Rimuru said. “It’s the best I can do.” Then he went home, where his friends were waiting with dinner.

The verdict

Rimuru Tempest wins

Doomsday comes back stronger every time he is killed, but Rimuru never kills him: Beelzebuth absorbs him piece by piece, and there is no death for Doomsday’s resurrection to adapt to.

  • BeelzebuthRimuru absorbs Doomsday without killing him.
  • Slime bodyHe reforms from Doomsday’s strongest punches.
  • AnalysisRaphael tells Rimuru exactly how not to fight him.

How the rematch could go differently: A Doomsday who had already adapted to absorption from an earlier fight could break out of Rimuru’s stomach dimension.
