The Arena

Madara Uchiha, resurrected and seeking a world worthy of his Infinite Tsukuyomi, tore open a rift into a burning dimension of fire and ash. He stepped through, his Rinnegan glowing, and found himself facing a giant red demon with four burning eyes and antlers like a crown, sitting on a throne of skulls.

“A mortal who seeks to end suffering,” Trigon rumbled, his voice shaking the dimension. “How amusing. I am suffering.” Madara looked up at the demon with cold contempt. “Then you are the first thing I will erase from my dream.” Trigon laughed, a sound like mountains splitting.

The Ten-Tails stirred inside Madara. Black orbs began to orbit behind his back.

Round One

Madara attacked first, his truth-seeking orbs flying at Trigon, spheres that disintegrate anything they touch. Trigon caught them in his giant hands, and they burned, and he crushed them into dust. Madara summoned his Susanoo, a towering blue giant, and swung its sword at the demon.

Trigon grew to match it, larger and larger, until he towered over even the Susanoo, and fired beams of crimson fire from his four eyes. The Susanoo cracked. Madara pulled two meteors out of the burning sky and hurled them at Trigon. Trigon swatted them aside like pebbles.

Madara frowned. In his own world, he had been a god. Here, he was standing in a god’s home.

The Turn

Madara raised his Rinnegan to the burning sky and cast the Infinite Tsukuyomi, the endless dream that traps every mind that sees it. The light fell over Trigon’s dimension, and Madara waited for the demon to fall into a peaceful dream.

Trigon looked up at the light with all four eyes and smiled. He did not dream of peace. A demon of suffering cannot be soothed by a dream of a world without suffering. He reached into the Tsukuyomi itself, found the threads of chakra powering it, and followed them back into Madara’s own mind.

Inside, he found exactly what he was looking for: a man who had lost his brother, his clan and his dream, and who was made entirely of grief.

The Finish

Trigon showed Madara his brother Izuna, dying in his arms. He showed him Hashirama’s face as he turned away. He showed him every person he had ever lost, again and again, and Madara’s grief, the thing that had driven him for a century, rose up and swallowed him. His Susanoo collapsed. His Rinnegan dimmed.

He fell to his knees in the burning ash, and Trigon stood over him, enormous, feeding on his pain. “You wanted to end suffering,” Trigon said. “But you are the most beautiful suffering I have ever tasted.” Madara looked up, his eyes empty. For the first time in his long life, he had nothing left to fight with.

Then a voice reached him through the darkness: Hashirama’s, remembered, calling him a friend. Madara closed his eyes and, with the last of his strength, tore open a rift and threw himself back through it. He landed on the battlefield of his own world, alive, broken, and far more human than he had been in a century.

The verdict

Trigon wins

Madara as the Ten-Tails jinchuriki is immensely powerful, but in Trigon’s own dimension the demon outgrows his Susanoo, the Infinite Tsukuyomi cannot soothe a being made of suffering, and Trigon turns Madara’s grief against him.

  • Home dimensionTrigon is strongest in his own realm.
  • Feeding on sufferingMadara’s grief makes him the perfect victim.
  • Immunity to the dreamA demon of suffering cannot be soothed by peace.

How the rematch could go differently: On Earth, outside Trigon’s dimension, Madara’s meteors and truth-seeking orbs could seal the demon away.

Who do you think wins?

Who would win in a fight between Madara Uchiha and Trigon?

Trigon wins. Madara as the Ten-Tails jinchuriki is immensely powerful, but in Trigon’s own dimension the demon outgrows his Susanoo, the Infinite Tsukuyomi cannot soothe a being made of suffering, and Trigon turns Madara’s grief against him.
