The Arena
Jotaro Kujo stepped off a train that should not have existed, onto a desert crossroads where the world had already ended. A tall man in a leather jacket with seven scars on his chest stood by a ruined petrol station, staring at him. Neither of them said anything for a long time. Both of them were very good at that.
Finally Kenshiro spoke. “You are not from this land.” Jotaro adjusted his hat. “Yare yare daze.” A gang of wasteland raiders on motorcycles roared over the hill, saw the two silent men and decided this was their lucky day. Jotaro and Kenshiro looked at each other, then at the raiders, and both sighed.
Thirty seconds later, the raiders were scattered across the desert. Kenshiro turned back to Jotaro. “Now,” he said. “You.”
Round One
Kenshiro struck first, a lightning-fast series of strikes aimed at pressure points, the secret art of the Hokuto Shinken. Jotaro could not see them coming. But Star Platinum could. The purple Stand burst out of Jotaro’s body and met Kenshiro’s fists with its own, blow for blow, faster than any human eye could follow.
Kenshiro saw the Stand clearly. He had trained his whole life to perceive the invisible flow of energy in the human body, and Star Platinum glowed in his sight like a second fighter. He adjusted his strikes to hit both of them at once.
They broke apart, both breathing hard, both bruised. Jotaro realised this was not a man he could beat by punching harder. Kenshiro realised the same thing.
The Turn
Kenshiro unleashed the Hundred Crack Fist of the North Star: “ATATATATATATATATA!” Jotaro answered: “ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA!” The two rushes met in the middle of the crossroads, hundreds of blows per second colliding in a storm of fists that shattered the asphalt and blew the sand away in a ring.
A few of Kenshiro’s strikes got through. Jotaro felt them sink into pressure points on his chest. He knew enough about the old fighter’s legend to understand what that meant. In a few seconds, his body would destroy itself from the inside. Kenshiro stepped back and said calmly, “You are already dead.”
Jotaro looked at him from under the brim of his hat. “Not yet,” he said quietly. “Star Platinum: The World.”
The Finish
Time stopped. The sand froze in the air. Kenshiro froze mid-breath. In the silence, Jotaro had five seconds. He used the first to have Star Platinum press, with superhuman precision, against the pressure points Kenshiro had struck, reversing the damage the way he had watched the strikes land. He used the next four to punch.
Time resumed. Kenshiro was thrown back across the crossroads by a rush he never saw, smashing through the wall of the petrol station. Jotaro staggered, his body aching, but the pressure points held. The countdown in his chest had stopped.
Kenshiro rose slowly from the rubble, bloodied, and looked at Jotaro with deep respect. “You stopped time,” he said. Jotaro shrugged. “Just for a bit.” Kenshiro nodded and sat down against the broken wall, too tired to continue. After a moment, Jotaro sat down beside him. Neither of them said anything else. Neither of them needed to.
The verdict
Jotaro Kujo wins
Kenshiro is the deadlier martial artist and his pressure-point strikes would kill almost anyone, but Star Platinum is as fast as Kenshiro’s fists, and the ability to stop time gives Jotaro five seconds no one else gets.
- Time stopFive frozen seconds decide a fight between two equally fast rushes.
- PrecisionStar Platinum can undo the damage of Hokuto Shinken strikes.
- Two fighters at onceJotaro and his Stand can attack together.
How the rematch could go differently: If Kenshiro landed a pressure point that sealed Jotaro’s Stand before the time stop, the old master would win.
