The Arena

Itachi Uchiha appeared on a rooftop in Hell’s Kitchen in a swirl of crows, sent by a reverse summoning he had not intended. Daredevil was crouched on the edge, listening to the city. He heard the crows. He heard a heartbeat that was very calm and very ill, and lungs that rattled with every breath.

“You’re sick,” Matt said without turning. Itachi’s eyebrows rose slightly. “And you are blind,” he answered. “Yet you see me.” Matt stood and turned toward him. “I don’t see anything. But I hear you fine.” Itachi’s eyes turned red. The Sharingan spun. Nothing happened.

For the first time in years, Itachi was genuinely surprised. His genjutsu works through the eyes. And the man in red had no eyes that could see it.

Round One

Itachi drew a kunai and attacked. Daredevil heard it coming, parried with his billy club and answered with a flurry of strikes that forced the ninja back across the rooftop. Matt fought by sound, by the shift of air and the beat of a heart, and Itachi, who usually controlled his opponent’s perception, found himself in an honest fight.

He was faster, and his reflexes were superhuman. But Daredevil was the more brutal close-range fighter, all dirty tricks and acrobatic counters, and he landed a kick that sent Itachi into a water tower. The ninja came out of the spray coughing, a thin line of blood at his lips.

Matt heard the cough and paused. “You shouldn’t be fighting,” he said quietly. Itachi wiped his mouth. “I have always fought anyway.”

The Turn

Itachi changed tactics. He split into a flock of crows, dozens of them, each one with a beating heart, wings and claws. Daredevil’s radar sense suddenly showed a hundred targets, all moving, all real. He spun, striking, and every one he hit burst into feathers.

Then he heard fire. The real Itachi had circled behind him and breathed a great fireball across the rooftop. Daredevil threw himself aside, but the heat washed over him, and the roar of the flames drowned out every heartbeat on the roof. For a few seconds, his whole world was noise.

In those seconds, Itachi stepped close, as silent as a shadow, and laid his hand on Matt’s shoulder.

The Finish

He did not need the Sharingan. He pressed two fingers against a pressure point at the base of Matt’s neck, the way his clan had taught him long before his eyes had ever turned red. Daredevil’s legs folded, and he went down on one knee, then onto the wet rooftop, conscious but unable to move.

Itachi crouched beside him in the rain. “You are the first person in many years whose mind I could not touch,” he said. “It was refreshing to simply fight.” Matt laughed weakly. “Glad to be a novelty.”

Itachi rose, coughed again into his sleeve, and looked out over the city for a long moment. “Protect your village,” he said softly, and then he was crows again, scattering into the dark. Daredevil lay on the roof until the feeling came back, listening to their wings fade over Hell’s Kitchen.

The verdict

Itachi Uchiha wins

Daredevil’s blindness makes him immune to Itachi’s genjutsu, which turns it into a real fight, but Itachi is still faster, has crow clones and fire to overwhelm Matt’s radar sense, and a ninja’s knowledge of the body.

  • SpeedItachi’s reflexes are superhuman; Matt’s are peak human.
  • Sensory overloadCrows and fire flood Daredevil’s radar sense with noise.
  • VersatilityWithout genjutsu, Itachi still has fire, clones and pressure-point strikes.

How the rematch could go differently: A healthy Itachi would win faster; a Daredevil fighting in total silence on his own streets could make it far closer.

Itachi Uchiha wins. Daredevil’s blindness makes him immune to Itachi’s genjutsu, which turns it into a real fight, but Itachi is still faster, has crow clones and fire to overwhelm Matt’s radar sense, and a ninja’s knowledge of the body.
