The Arena
Kratos had killed the gods of two pantheons, and when something opened a gate to a new underworld, he went through it to make sure nothing came out. He found himself in a burning landscape of black rock and screaming demons, and in the middle of it, a figure in green armour was tearing a demon in half with his bare hands.
The Doom Slayer dropped the two halves of the demon and turned. He did not speak. He never speaks. He looked at the pale, ash-covered warrior with the axe, and Kratos looked back at the green armour, the helmet, the shotgun. Both of them understood: the other was not a demon. The other was worse.
Kratos raised the Leviathan Axe. “Leave this place,” he said. The Doom Slayer pumped his shotgun.
Round One
The Slayer fired, and the blast hit Kratos in the chest and drove him back ten metres. Kratos threw the Leviathan Axe, and it spun through the air and slammed into the Slayer’s armour, ice spreading across the green plates. The Slayer staggered, shook off the frost and fired again.
They closed the distance, and the fight became brutal. Kratos used his fists and his axe, smashing the Slayer into the black rock. The Slayer used everything he had: shotgun blasts at point-blank range, grenades, and his fists, which had punched through the skulls of demons the size of buildings.
Demons gathered around the edge of the fight, watching from a distance. None of them dared come closer.
The Turn
Kratos roared, and his eyes turned red. Spartan Rage. He hit the Slayer with a flurry of blows that cracked his armour, threw him into a pillar of black stone and then through it. The demons watching began to flee. They had seen many things in hell. They had never seen anyone hurt the Slayer like this.
The Slayer rose from the rubble. His armour was broken in three places. Blood ran down his visor. He reached over his shoulder and drew a sword of glowing red energy. The Crucible. A blade forged to kill the gods of hell.
For the first time, Kratos hesitated. He had killed gods. He recognised a weapon made for it.
The Finish
They clashed again, the Crucible against the Blades of Chaos. Kratos was the greater warrior, his skill honed over centuries. But the Slayer did not tire, did not slow down, did not stop. His rage was endless, and it had been building for eons. Every time Kratos landed a blow, the Slayer came back harder.
When the Spartan Rage burned out, Kratos found himself face to face with a warrior whose rage had never burned out at all. The Crucible knocked the Blades of Chaos from his hands, and the Slayer’s fist drove him to his knees on the black rock.
The Slayer raised the Crucible, then stopped. He looked at the kneeling god, at the weariness in his eyes, and lowered the blade. He gestured at the gate behind Kratos. Go home. Kratos rose slowly and walked back through the portal. Behind him, the Slayer turned toward the horde of demons waiting at the edge of the fire, and pumped his shotgun.
The verdict
Doom Slayer wins
Kratos is the more skilled warrior and his Spartan Rage hurts the Slayer badly, but the Doom Slayer’s rage never burns out, the Crucible was forged to kill gods, and he simply refuses to stop.
- Endless rageThe Slayer never tires; Kratos’s Spartan Rage burns out.
- The CrucibleA blade made to kill the gods of hell.
- DurabilityThe Slayer survives Spartan Rage and keeps coming.
How the rematch could go differently: Kratos at his peak in the Greek era, with the Blade of Olympus, could cut through the Slayer’s armour before the rage built.
