The Arena
Beerus heard that the gods of Asgard held the greatest feasts in the nine realms, and he came uninvited, Whis floating behind him. He walked into the great hall, sat down at the head of the table, and began eating. The Asgardian warriors drew their swords. The Allfather rose from his throne, one eye blazing.
“You sit in my seat,” Odin said, his voice shaking the rafters. Beerus did not look up from his plate. “It’s a nice seat. The food is excellent.” Odin raised Gungnir, his spear, and lightning crackled along its shaft. “You will leave Asgard now, cat, or I will cast you out myself.” Beerus licked his fingers and finally looked at the old god.
“I am Beerus, God of Destruction,” he said mildly. “And you are being very rude.” Whis covered his smile with his sleeve.
Round One
Odin hurled Gungnir, the spear that never misses. Beerus caught it between two fingers, examined it with interest, and dropped it on the floor. Odin’s eye widened. Gungnir had pierced giants and gods. Nothing had ever caught it.
Odin unleashed the Odinforce, a power that could reshape stars, and a blast of golden energy filled the hall. Beerus stood in the middle of it, his robes fluttering, eating a drumstick. When the light faded, the hall was scorched and the warriors were thrown against the walls. Beerus was unharmed.
He sighed and put down the drumstick. “You have interrupted my dinner twice,” he said. “That was your last warning.”
The Turn
Odin poured every ounce of the Odinforce into a single attack, drawing power from Yggdrasil itself, from all nine realms. The blast was so vast it lit up the sky over Asgard like a second sun. It hit Beerus full on, and for a moment, the God of Destruction actually took a step back.
Beerus looked down at a small scorch mark on his robe. He looked up at Odin. Something dangerous flickered in his eyes. “That was a good one,” he said quietly. “Nobody has made me step back in a very long time.” Whis stopped smiling.
Beerus raised one hand, and a small purple sphere appeared above his palm.
The Finish
Hakai. The power of destruction. Beerus did not aim it at Odin. He aimed it at Gungnir, lying on the floor, and the spear that had served the Allfather for millennia simply ceased to exist. Then he aimed it at Odin’s throne, and the throne vanished too. Odin stared at the empty space where both had been.
Beerus walked forward and tapped Odin on the chest with one finger. The Allfather flew backwards through the wall of his own hall and landed in the courtyard, the Odinforce drained, his body sinking into the Odinsleep as his power gave out.
Beerus returned to the table and finished his dinner. Thor, who had arrived just in time to see his father thrown through a wall, watched the cat god eat in stunned silence. Beerus looked up at him. “Your father is very rude,” he said. “But the mead is excellent. I will spare Asgard.” Thor, very wisely, said nothing at all.
The verdict
Beerus wins
The Odinforce is immense and even makes Beerus step back, but Beerus is a God of Destruction whose Hakai can erase anything, and he barely needs to try.
- HakaiBeerus’s destruction power erases Gungnir and the throne.
- Power scaleGods of destruction rank among the strongest beings in their multiverse.
- DurabilityBeerus takes the full Odinforce with a scorch mark.
How the rematch could go differently: An Odin with the full power of every Asgardian combined, as he has drawn on in the comics, could make it a real fight.
