The Arena
Koenma sent Yusuke Urameshi to investigate a town in another world where the spirit energy was off the charts, and the first thing Yusuke found was an orange-haired kid in a black robe, carrying a sword as big as a door, cutting a Hollow in half on a rooftop. Ichigo Kurosaki turned and scowled. “Can you see me?”
Yusuke grinned and pointed at him. “Yeah. You’re a spirit. And I’m a spirit detective. Which means I’m supposed to bring you in.” Ichigo’s scowl deepened. “I’m not a spirit. I’m a Soul Reaper. And I’m alive.” Yusuke shrugged. “I died once. It wasn’t that bad.”
Ichigo stared at him. “You died too?” They looked at each other for a moment, two delinquents with too much in common. Then Yusuke cracked his knuckles. “Wanna fight?” Ichigo raised his sword. “Obviously.”
Round One
Yusuke opened with a Spirit Gun that hit Ichigo square in the chest and knocked him off the roof. Ichigo flash-stepped back up, his sword swinging, and the wide blade missed Yusuke by an inch and cut a chimney in half. They brawled across the rooftops, Yusuke’s street-fighting fists against Ichigo’s massive sword.
Ichigo was faster with Flash Step, and Yusuke was the better hand-to-hand fighter, ducking under the sword and landing body blows. Ichigo swung harder. Yusuke got more creative, firing Spirit Shotgun bursts that peppered Ichigo with a hundred small blasts.
“Getsuga Tensho!” Ichigo swung his sword, and a crescent of blue energy tore across the rooftops. Yusuke fired a Spirit Gun to meet it, and the two attacks exploded over the town.
The Turn
Yusuke’s demon blood woke up. Long hair, tribal markings, and an aura of demon energy that made the night air tremble. He hit Ichigo with a punch that sent him crashing through three buildings, and for a moment, the Soul Reaper did not get up.
Then Ichigo rose, and his sword was different. “Bankai. Tensa Zangetsu.” The huge blade had become a slim black katana, and Ichigo’s black coat swirled around him as he moved faster than Yusuke could see. The first cut came from behind. The second from the left. The third from somewhere Yusuke could not even guess.
Yusuke bled and laughed. “Okay. That’s fast.” Ichigo’s eyes flickered, and for a moment, they turned black and gold.
The Finish
A white mask spread across Ichigo’s face. His Hollow powers flared, his speed and strength doubling again, and his Getsuga Tensho turned black and red. Yusuke threw his strongest Spirit Gun, a blast big enough to destroy a mountain, and Ichigo’s black crescent cut straight through it.
The attack hit Yusuke and drove him into the street below, leaving a long smoking trench. He lay at the bottom, his demon form fading, too battered to rise. Ichigo landed beside him, the Hollow mask crumbling away from his face. He looked worried.
“Hey. You alive?” Yusuke coughed and grinned at the sky. “Technically. Again.” Ichigo sat down next to him, exhausted. “You’ve got a monster in you too, huh?” Yusuke nodded. “Demon king for a dad.” Ichigo snorted. “Hollow, Quincy and Soul Reaper. Family stuff is complicated.” They lay in the trench and laughed until a Hollow attacked them both.
The verdict
Ichigo Kurosaki wins
Yusuke’s Spirit Gun and demon blood make it close, but Ichigo’s Bankai speed and Hollow mask give him a burst of power that Yusuke cannot match.
- Bankai speedTensa Zangetsu moves faster than Yusuke can follow.
- Hollow maskIt multiplies Ichigo’s strength and the power of his Getsuga Tensho.
- RangeGetsuga Tensho cuts through Yusuke’s Spirit Gun.
How the rematch could go differently: A Yusuke who had fully mastered his demon king inheritance could match even a masked Ichigo.
