The Arena

Mephisto heard of a creature in another world called the King of Curses, a being who made binding vows and twisted their terms to his advantage. A dealmaker. Mephisto adored dealmakers. He appeared in a ruined shrine in a puff of red smoke and found Sukuna lounging on a pile of bones, four eyes half closed.

“A devil,” Sukuna said, amused. “How quaint.” Mephisto bowed theatrically. “The devil, if you please. I hear you are fond of binding vows. I happen to be something of an expert in contracts.” Sukuna sat up, grinning with both mouths. “Is that so? Then let us make a vow. If I win, I take your power. If you win, you take my soul.”

Mephisto’s smile grew very, very wide. “Done.”

Round One

Sukuna attacked with Dismantle, invisible slashes that cut through the shrine’s walls. They cut Mephisto into a dozen pieces. The pieces laughed, floated back together and reformed into the devil, adjusting his cape. Sukuna raised an eyebrow. He cut him again, with Cleave this time. Mephisto reformed again, humming.

Mephisto snapped his fingers, and the shrine became a theatre, Sukuna standing on a stage under a spotlight, an audience of damned souls clapping. Sukuna laughed and cut the stage apart. Mephisto snapped again, and the theatre became an ocean of fire. Sukuna burned and regenerated and kept laughing.

Two beings who loved cruelty were enjoying themselves enormously.

The Turn

Sukuna opened his domain, Malevolent Shrine, and every surface for two hundred metres became a blade. Mephisto was cut to ribbons again and again, faster than he could reform, and for a moment, his laughter stopped.

Then it started again, from somewhere else, from everywhere at once. “Sukuna, my dear,” Mephisto’s voice said from inside the shrine itself, “did you read the terms of our vow? You said: if I win, I take your soul. You never said how long the fight would last.” Sukuna’s grin faltered.

“I am an immortal ruler of a hell dimension,” Mephisto said. “I can reform forever. You, on the other hand, only have so much cursed energy.”

The Finish

Sukuna maintained his domain for as long as he could, cutting Mephisto apart over and over, and Mephisto reformed over and over, chatting cheerfully about the weather. Finally, Sukuna’s cursed energy ran out. The shrine collapsed. He stood in the ruins, panting, and Mephisto stood in front of him, untouched.

“And now,” Mephisto said softly, “the soul.” He reached for Sukuna’s chest. Sukuna, for the first time in a thousand years, felt fear. Then Mephisto stopped, his hand hovering. “Actually,” he said, “a soul this rotten would spoil the rest of my collection. I’ll take a favour instead. To be named later.”

Sukuna stared at him. A favour to a devil, to be named later, was far worse than losing his soul, and he knew it. Mephisto vanished in a puff of red smoke, laughing. Somewhere in a hell dimension, a new contract appeared in his files, signed in curse-blood. The King of Curses had finally met someone who wrote better fine print.

The verdict

Mephisto wins

Sukuna’s Malevolent Shrine cuts Mephisto apart endlessly, but Mephisto reforms forever, and the binding vow Sukuna proposed has no time limit, so his cursed energy runs out long before Mephisto does.

  • ImmortalityMephisto reforms from any wound, forever.
  • Contract masteryHe exploits the missing time limit in Sukuna’s vow.
  • EnduranceSukuna’s cursed energy is finite; Mephisto’s power is not.

How the rematch could go differently: A Sukuna who refused to make any deal and simply walked away would deny Mephisto the only kind of victory he truly wants.

Who do you think wins?

Who would win in a fight between Mephisto and Ryomen Sukuna?

Mephisto wins. Sukuna’s Malevolent Shrine cuts Mephisto apart endlessly, but Mephisto reforms forever, and the binding vow Sukuna proposed has no time limit, so his cursed energy runs out long before Mephisto does.
