The Arena
Garp’s Marine warship ran aground on a tiny island with a single pink house on it, and an old man with a long white beard, sunglasses and a turtle shell on his back came out to complain about the noise. Garp climbed down from the ship, eating a doughnut, and looked at the little old man. “You live here alone?”
Master Roshi adjusted his sunglasses. “With a turtle. And you’ve just crashed into my beach.” Garp laughed loudly. “Sorry about that! I’m Garp.” Roshi squinted at him. “You’re a fighter. I can tell by your hands.” Garp grinned and cracked his knuckles, each one the size of a walnut. “And you’re a lot stronger than you look.”
The turtle, sensing what was about to happen, quietly walked into the sea.
Round One
Garp threw the first punch, a Fist of Love coated in Armament Haki, and Roshi caught it with one palm. The impact blew the windows out of the pink house. Garp’s eyebrows rose. The tiny old man had not moved an inch. Roshi smiled. “Nice punch. My turn.”
He hit Garp in the stomach with a strike so precise and powerful that the Marine hero flew back across the beach and into the side of his own ship. Garp climbed out of the hole in the hull, laughing. “Ha! You hit like a cannonball!” He picked up an actual cannonball from the ship and threw it at Roshi. Roshi caught it.
They traded blows across the beach, two old men who had been fighting since before most people were born.
The Turn
Garp landed a Haki-coated fist on Roshi’s jaw that would have killed an Admiral. Roshi spun across the sand, landed on his feet and spat out a tooth. Then he took off his shirt and flexed, and his small, wrinkled body swelled into a mountain of muscle twice its normal size.
Garp stared, a doughnut halfway to his mouth. “Oh,” he said. Roshi cupped his hands at his side. Blue light began to gather between them. “Ka… me…” Garp dropped the doughnut and coated his whole body in Haki. “Ha… me…”
Garp charged, his fist blazing with Haki, ready to meet the attack head-on.
The Finish
“HAAA!” The Kamehameha met Garp’s Fist of Love in the middle of the beach. For a moment, the two forces held each other, blue light against black Haki. Then the beam pushed through, carried Garp across the sea and slammed him into a distant island.
When the light faded, Roshi’s muscles deflated, and he sat down heavily in the sand, exhausted. A few minutes later, Garp came swimming back, battered and soaking wet, and collapsed on the beach next to him. Both of them lay on their backs, staring at the sky, breathing hard.
“You won,” Garp said, laughing. “First time in forty years anyone beat me in a straight fight.” Roshi chuckled. “I used to destroy the moon with that.” Garp sat up. “The moon?” Roshi nodded. Garp was silent for a moment. Then he pulled two more doughnuts out of his coat and offered one to Roshi. They ate them on the beach, two old grandfathers, as the sun went down.
The verdict
Master Roshi wins
Garp’s Haki-coated fists can punch meteors and he trades blow for blow with Roshi, but Roshi’s Max Power Kamehameha once destroyed the moon, and in a head-on clash it simply carries more force.
- The KamehamehaA technique that once destroyed the moon.
- Max Power formRoshi’s muscles multiply his strength for the decisive moment.
- ExperienceRoshi has trained and fought for over three hundred years.
How the rematch could go differently: In a long brawl without the Kamehameha, Garp’s Haki and endurance could wear down the old hermit.
