The Arena
Broly crashed onto Onigashima in an escape pod, confused and frightened, and the Beast Pirates attacked him immediately. He did not understand what was happening. He only knew that people were hurting him, and when people hurt Broly, something inside him begins to wake up.
By the time Kaido arrived, dozens of his pirates lay scattered across the island, and a huge, gentle-faced young man stood in the middle of the wreckage, breathing hard. Kaido looked at him with drunken delight. “Finally,” he rumbled. “Someone strong enough to kill me.” He raised his enormous club.
Broly looked at the giant, horned man and said quietly, “I don’t want to fight.” Kaido laughed. “That’s too bad.”
Round One
Kaido swung his club, coated in Conqueror’s Haki, and hit Broly so hard he flew across the island and through a mountain. Broly climbed out of the rubble, bleeding, and his eyes began to glow. Something was waking up. His hair started to change colour.
He charged, and his punch hit Kaido in the stomach and drove the Strongest Creature back across the fortress. Kaido laughed with delight, his body almost undamaged. He turned into his dragon form, a vast blue serpent, and breathed a blast of fire that turned Onigashima into an inferno.
Broly walked through the fire. His hair was green now, and his body was growing larger.
The Turn
The Legendary Super Saiyan emerged. Broly’s body swelled, his hair turned green-gold, and his power kept rising, and rising, with no sign of stopping. He grabbed Kaido’s dragon body by the tail and swung it around like a whip, slamming it into the sea again and again.
Kaido transformed into his hybrid form and fought back with everything he had, his club wreathed in black lightning, his Haki strong enough to crack the sky. Every blow landed. Broly took them all and got angrier, and every time he got angrier, he got stronger.
For the first time in his long life, Kaido realised that his opponent’s power had no ceiling. He was delighted. He was also, for the first time, afraid.
The Finish
Broly grabbed Kaido by the horns and drove him down through Onigashima, through the fortress, through the island, into the sea floor beneath it. The skull-shaped mountain split in half. When the dust cleared, Kaido lay in a crater at the bottom of the ocean, his body finally broken, unable to rise.
Broly stood over him, roaring, his power still climbing. Then, slowly, something in his eyes softened. The rage drained out of him. His hair turned black again. He looked down at the broken giant beneath him and seemed confused, as though waking from a nightmare.
“Are you okay?” Broly asked. Kaido stared up at him, then began to laugh, a deep, rumbling, bitter laugh. “You were supposed to kill me,” he said. Broly sat down beside him in the ruins. “I don’t want to kill anyone,” he said quietly. Kaido had no answer to that. Nobody had ever said it to him before.
