The Arena
Frieza’s spaceship landed on a volcanic island in the middle of the Grand Line, and he stepped out with his usual polite smile, intending to sell the planet to the highest bidder. The Marines arrived within the hour. At their head was a huge man in a red suit with a cap on his head and smoke rising from his fists.
“You’re a pirate,” Akainu said. Frieza laughed. “A pirate? I am the emperor of the universe. I have conquered more planets than you have seen islands.” Akainu’s fist began to glow red. “Then you are the worst pirate of all.” His arm turned to magma, dripping onto the rock.
Frieza looked at the lava with mild interest. “How charming. You have a little trick.”
Round One
Akainu attacked with Great Eruption, a fist of magma the size of a house, and it hit Frieza square in the chest. The lava splashed around him, melting the rock beneath his feet. Frieza stepped out of it, his skin smoking slightly, and brushed a drop of molten rock off his shoulder.
He fired a Death Beam, a finger-thin ray, and it punched straight through Akainu’s shoulder. The Admiral’s magma body reformed around the wound. Frieza raised an eyebrow. A Logia user could not be damaged by normal attacks. Frieza had never met anyone like that.
Akainu came at him again with fists of lava, and Frieza began, for the first time, to dodge.
The Turn
Akainu coated his magma fist in Armament Haki and punched Frieza in the face. For the first time in years, Frieza felt real pain. He staggered back, holding his jaw, his smile gone. Akainu pressed the attack, raining meteors of magma down from the sky, turning the island into a sea of lava.
Frieza rose into the air above the burning island, and his expression changed. The polite emperor was gone. In his place was something cold and furious. “You hit me,” he said quietly. “Nobody hits me.” His body began to change.
His final form emerged, smooth and white, and the power rolling off him made the volcano beneath them begin to crack.
The Finish
Frieza attacked with speed Akainu could barely see, even with Observation Haki. He hit the Admiral with a hundred blows in a second, each one coated in power far beyond anything on the Grand Line. Akainu’s magma body kept reforming, but slower each time, and Frieza’s blows found the real body beneath the lava.
Finally Frieza raised a single finger and formed a tiny glowing sphere. “Death Ball,” he said, and dropped it into the volcano. The entire island exploded. When the smoke cleared, Akainu lay on a floating slab of rock, his magma cooled to stone, his body barely holding together.
Frieza floated above him, smiling again. “Your justice is very hot,” he said. “But I am very cold.” He returned to his ship and left the Grand Line, deciding the planet was not worth the trouble. The Marines found their Fleet Admiral alive, barely, and nobody ever spoke about that day again.
The verdict
Frieza wins
Akainu’s magma body and Haki-coated fists genuinely hurt Frieza, but Frieza’s final form operates on a planetary scale, and a Death Ball destroys the island Akainu needs to stand on.
- Power scaleFrieza can destroy planets; Akainu can destroy islands.
- SpeedFinal-form Frieza outpaces Akainu’s Observation Haki.
- Logia limitsAkainu’s magma body cannot reform fast enough against Frieza’s blows.
How the rematch could go differently: A Frieza who refused to transform out of pride could be ground down by Akainu’s Haki and magma.
