The Arena
Future Trunks landed his time machine in the wrong timeline entirely, on a gloomy island with a ruined castle, and stepped out with his sword on his back. Dracule Mihawk was sitting in the courtyard drinking wine. He looked at the young man with lavender hair and immediately noticed the sword.
“That blade has killed something powerful,” Mihawk said. Trunks nodded. “An emperor of the universe. And his father.” Mihawk set down his glass and stood up, his hawk-like eyes sharp with interest for the first time in years. He drew Yoru, his black blade, taller than he was. “Show me.”
Trunks hesitated. He had not come here to fight. But he recognised that look. It was the look of a warrior who had been bored for a very long time.
Round One
Mihawk struck first, a single slash so fast and precise it cut a stone tower in half behind Trunks. Trunks blocked it, and the impact numbed his arms to the shoulder. He stared at Mihawk. A human with a sword, no ki, no transformations, had just hit him harder than most Saiyans could.
They fought through the castle courtyard, and Mihawk was the better swordsman, his technique perfect, his blade reading every opening. He cut Trunks across the arm and again across the chest. Trunks was faster and stronger, but Mihawk used Observation Haki to see every movement a moment before it happened.
Trunks stepped back, breathing hard, and smiled. “You’re incredible,” he said honestly. Then his hair turned gold.
The Turn
In Super Saiyan form, Trunks moved so fast that Mihawk lost sight of him for the first time. But Mihawk did not need to see him. Observation Haki told him where Trunks would be. He swung Yoru, its black blade now coated in a deeper black of Armament Haki, and it cut through Trunks’s ki aura and drew blood from his shoulder.
Trunks staggered, astonished. Nothing should have been able to cut him in this form. Mihawk smiled, a rare, cold smile. “Haki is the will made solid,” he said. “Your power is great. My will is greater.”
Trunks wiped the blood away and nodded slowly. He had faced stronger enemies. He had never faced a more skilled one.
The Finish
Trunks stopped trying to out-fence the greatest swordsman in the world. He leapt into the sky, high above the castle, and fired a Burning Attack, a blast of ki that turned the courtyard into a crater. Mihawk cut the blast in half with a single slash of Yoru. It was the most extraordinary thing Trunks had ever seen a human do.
But while Mihawk was cutting the blast, Trunks was already behind him, and his blade, moving faster than even Observation Haki could warn, knocked Yoru out of Mihawk’s hands. The black sword spun through the air and stuck in the castle wall. Trunks held his sword at Mihawk’s throat.
Mihawk looked at the blade for a long moment, then laughed, a sound nobody on Kuraigana had heard in years. “It has been a long time since I lost my sword,” he said. Trunks lowered his blade. “It has been a long time since anyone made me bleed.” They shared a bottle of wine in the ruined castle, two swordsmen who had finally found a worthy opponent.
The verdict
Future Trunks wins
Mihawk is the greater swordsman and his Haki-coated blade cuts even a Super Saiyan, but Trunks has far greater speed and power, and his ki attacks give him options no sword can fully answer.
- SpeedSuper Saiyan Trunks outpaces even Mihawk’s Observation Haki.
- Ki attacksA Burning Attack forces Mihawk to cut instead of defend.
- Power scaleTrunks can destroy a castle with a single blast.
How the rematch could go differently: In a pure sword duel with no ki and no transformations, Mihawk would almost certainly win.
