The Arena
Natasha Romanoff followed a strange energy signal into a ruined city and found herself surrounded by tall stone buildings, empty streets and enormous footprints. On a rooftop above her, a short man in a green cloak with two blades stood watching her, his gear whirring quietly at his hips.
“You’re not a Titan,” Levi Ackerman said flatly. “And you’re not from the Survey Corps.” Natasha looked up at him, her bracelets crackling. “And you’re not a SHIELD agent.” Levi tilted his head. “I don’t know what that is.” Natasha smiled thinly. “Then you’re probably not on my side.”
Levi sighed. “Tch. Fine.” He launched off the rooftop on a pair of wires.
Round One
Levi came down on her like a hawk, spinning on his ODM gear, his blades flashing. Natasha rolled away, fired a Widow’s Bite, and Levi twisted in mid-air, cut the wire of her grappling hook and swung around a building out of range. She had never seen anyone move like that.
They fought through the ruined city, Levi swinging between buildings at impossible speed, Natasha using every trick she knew: gas pellets, electric bolts, her grappling line. She landed a kick to his ribs when he swooped low. He landed a cut across her arm when she climbed a wall. Both of them were impressed.
Natasha was the more versatile fighter. Levi was simply faster than anything she had ever fought.
The Turn
Natasha set a trap, a tripwire between two buildings charged with electricity, and lured Levi toward it. He saw it at the last moment and, instead of avoiding it, spun his whole body through the gap between the wire and the wall, a manoeuvre so precise it should not have been possible. He landed behind her.
She turned, and he was already striking. She blocked the first blade with her bracelet and the second with her forearm, taking a shallow cut. She drove her knee into his stomach, and he did not even grunt. He had fought creatures fifteen metres tall. A knee was nothing.
Natasha realised she was facing someone who had never once been allowed to lose, because losing meant being eaten.
The Finish
Levi came at her one final time, spinning so fast he became a blur of steel. Natasha fired every Widow’s Bite she had left, and he cut through the air between the bolts, and then his blade was resting against her throat, perfectly still, his eyes flat and cold.
Natasha did not move. Levi held the blade there for a long moment, then lowered it. “You’re good,” he said, sheathing his blades. “For someone who isn’t fighting Titans.” Natasha rubbed her throat and laughed softly. “I’ve fought gods and aliens. But I’ve never fought anyone like you.”
Levi produced a handkerchief from his cloak and handed it to her for the cut on her arm. Then he started cleaning his blades meticulously. Natasha watched him. “You’re very tidy,” she said. Levi did not look up. “Blood rusts steel.” She almost smiled. They had more in common than either of them wanted to admit.
The verdict
Levi Ackerman wins
Black Widow is the more versatile fighter with gadgets and spycraft, but Levi is superhumanly fast, his ODM gear lets him fight in three dimensions, and he has fought creatures that would terrify anyone.
- SpeedLevi moves faster than anything Natasha has fought.
- ODM gearThree-dimensional movement Natasha cannot match.
- Ackerman strengthHis body is superhumanly strong and durable.
How the rematch could go differently: On open ground with no buildings for his gear, Natasha’s spycraft and gadgets could ground Levi and turn the fight.
