The Arena

A mission gone wrong left Natasha Romanoff in a strange city of tall stone buildings and empty streets, with a girl in a red scarf watching her from a rooftop. Mikasa had been told to guard a district while the rest of the Survey Corps moved out. When a stranger in black appeared out of nowhere, she did not wait for an explanation.

Natasha saw the blades, the gear and the eyes, and knew instantly she was facing a professional. She smiled anyway. It is always better to look calm.

Round One

Mikasa came down from the rooftop on a whistling cable, blades flashing. Natasha rolled, came up firing her widow’s bites, the electric darts sparking off one of Mikasa’s blades. She was fast, and she knew how to fight a stronger opponent.

Natasha slipped inside Mikasa’s reach, struck at nerve points in her arm and tried a leg sweep. Mikasa absorbed the strikes as if they barely registered and threw Natasha five metres into a wall with one arm. The Ackerman strength is not human.

Natasha came back with a grappling line of her own, swinging between the stone buildings to match Mikasa’s gear. For a few seconds the two women fought in mid-air, Natasha’s batons against Mikasa’s blades, both landing on the same rooftop at the same moment, both already moving again.

The Turn

Natasha switched to deception. A smoke grenade, a decoy, a feint toward the gear’s gas canister. She landed a sting from her widow’s bite to Mikasa’s neck, enough voltage to drop a strong man.

Mikasa staggered, shook her head, and kept coming. Her expression did not change at all. Natasha had fought super-soldiers and gods, and still felt a chill at the sight of that empty, focused face. She realised she was not facing a soldier who could be outsmarted. She was facing someone who would walk through anything to finish the job.

The Finish

Natasha fought with everything she had, every dirty trick from the Red Room, and opened a cut along Mikasa’s arm with a hidden knife. Mikasa caught her wrist, twisted the knife away, and slammed her to the cobblestones with a strength that cracked the stones under her back.

A blade stopped at Natasha’s throat. She lay still, breathing hard, and laughed. “I give up. I’m not your enemy, by the way.” Mikasa held the blade there for a long moment, studying her face. Then she pulled it back.

“You fight like you’ve lost everything,” Mikasa said quietly. Natasha sat up, rubbing her shoulder. “So do you, kid.” They walked back to the wall together, in silence, two weapons who had both decided to be more than that.

The verdict

Mikasa Ackerman wins

Black Widow is the more skilled and resourceful fighter, but Mikasa’s Ackerman strength, speed and endurance are superhuman, and Natasha’s tricks cannot stop someone who simply will not fall.

  • Ackerman strengthMikasa is far stronger and faster than any human Natasha has fought.
  • EnduranceShe shrugs off Natasha’s electric darts and nerve strikes.
  • FocusMikasa ignores deception and fights straight through it.

How the rematch could go differently: On Natasha’s ground, with time to plan an ambush and the right gadgets, her intelligence and preparation could overcome Mikasa’s raw power.
