The Arena

Levi Ackerman arrived in Gotham through a portal three days before he ever met Batman. In those three days, he swung across the city on his ODM gear, cutting down criminals with brutal efficiency, leaving them tied up for the police. Batman watched every one of those fights on his surveillance cameras.

On the third night, Levi landed on a gargoyle and found a man in a black cape already waiting there. “You’ve been cleaning up my city,” Batman said. Levi looked at him, unimpressed. “Your city’s filthy.” Batman did not smile. “It is. But you’re killing people. That stops.” Levi drew his blades. “Make me.”

Batman had already planned exactly how.

Round One

Levi came at him like a whirlwind, spinning on his gear, his blades flashing. Batman dodged the first strike by a hair and threw a smoke pellet. Levi swung out of the cloud, around a building, and came back from behind, faster than anyone Batman had ever fought. His blade cut through Batman’s cape.

Batman was not trying to win the first exchange. He was confirming what he had learned from the footage: Levi’s speed, his angles, the way he always anchored his left hook first. He took a cut across the arm, noted the timing, and fired a grappling line that tangled in Levi’s cable.

Levi cut it free in a second. That was the second Batman needed to set his first trap.

The Turn

Levi swung toward a tall building, fired his left anchor exactly as Batman knew he would, and the hook struck the wall and slid straight off. Batman had coated the building’s face in a frictionless polymer the night before. Levi dropped, twisted, fired his right anchor, and found that building coated too.

Gotham’s rooftops, which had been Levi’s playground for three days, had become a maze of surfaces he could not grip. Batman had spent the day preparing every building in a six-block radius. Levi fell three storeys before he caught a ledge with his bare hand.

He hauled himself up, his expression murderous. “You prepared this,” he said. Batman landed in front of him. “I prepare everything.”

The Finish

Without his gear, Levi was still faster and stronger than Batman, a superhuman fighter who had killed giants. He attacked on foot, and his blades nearly opened Batman’s throat twice. But Batman had studied his footwork for three days. He knew every feint, every angle, every rhythm.

He caught Levi’s wrist mid-strike, twisted the blade out of his hand, and hit him with a gas pellet at point-blank range. Levi fought the gas for a long time, impressively long, his blade still swinging, before his legs finally gave out and he dropped to one knee on the rooftop.

Batman knelt beside him. “You’re a soldier,” he said quietly. “You fight monsters. I respect that. But there are no Titans here. These are people, and they deserve a trial.” Levi looked up at him, his vision blurring. “Tch,” he said. “You talk too much.” Batman almost smiled. He sent Levi home through the portal the next morning, his blades cleaned.

The verdict

Batman wins

Levi is faster and stronger and nearly wins in a straight fight, but Batman spent three days studying him and preparing Gotham’s rooftops, and without his ODM gear, Levi walks into every trap.

  • PreparationBatman studied Levi’s fights and coated the buildings against his gear.
  • Detective skillHe memorised Levi’s footwork and feints.
  • GadgetsA gas pellet ends the fight.

How the rematch could go differently: A Levi who struck on the first night, before Batman could prepare, would cut him down in seconds.
