The Arena

Yujiro heard that there was a man in Tokyo called the strongest sorcerer alive, a man nobody had ever managed to touch. To Yujiro, that sounded like an insult. He found Gojo Satoru on a rooftop in Shibuya, eating a crepe, his blindfold pushed up on his forehead.

Gojo looked at the huge red-haired man with the demon face on his back and whistled. “Wow. You’re big. Are you a cursed spirit?” Yujiro grinned. “I am Yujiro Hanma. They say no one can touch you.” Gojo finished his crepe and smiled. “They’re right. Wanna try?”

Yujiro did not answer. He was already swinging.

Round One

Yujiro’s fist stopped a hair’s width from Gojo’s face. Not blocked. Stopped, as if the space between them had become infinite. Yujiro’s eyes widened. He punched again, harder, with everything he had. His fist hung in the air an inch from Gojo’s nose, slowing forever, never arriving.

“That’s Infinity,” Gojo explained cheerfully. “The space between us keeps dividing. You can punch as hard as you like. You just get infinitely close.” Yujiro stepped back and stared at his own fist. For the first time in his life, his strength had met something it could not reach.

Then he laughed, louder than he had laughed in years. “Wonderful,” he said. “Something I cannot break.”

The Turn

Yujiro tried everything. He grappled. He threw debris. He punched the rooftop beneath Gojo’s feet so hard the building cracked. He tried attacking from behind, from above, from below. Infinity stopped all of it, the same way, every time, a hair’s width from Gojo’s skin.

Gojo watched, impressed. “You’re really strong,” he said. “In my world, you’d be terrifying.” Then he raised one finger. “Blue.” A sphere of attraction crushed the air around Yujiro and pulled him toward it, and for the first time, the Ogre could not resist a force pulling him somewhere he did not want to go.

He tore himself out of it with raw strength, his muscles straining, his skin bleeding. Gojo raised his eyebrows. “Okay. Nobody does that.”

The Finish

Gojo crossed his fingers. “Domain Expansion. Infinite Void.” The rooftop vanished, and Yujiro found himself in an endless space flooding his mind with infinite information, every sight and sound and thought in existence, all at once. His body, the strongest on Earth, froze completely.

Gojo released the domain after a quarter of a second, and Yujiro dropped to one knee on the rooftop, blinking, his mind reeling. Gojo crouched in front of him. “You okay, big guy?” Yujiro looked up at him, and slowly, his grin returned. “I could not touch you,” he said. “Not once.”

Gojo shrugged. “Nobody can. It’s pretty lonely, honestly.” Yujiro laughed, long and loud. “Yes,” he said. “It is.” They sat on the rooftop until dawn, the strongest creature and the strongest sorcerer, two men who had never had an equal, and for one night, almost felt like they had found one.

The verdict

Satoru Gojo wins

Yujiro’s strength is overwhelming, but Infinity stops anything from reaching Gojo, and no amount of power closes infinite distance. Infinite Void then freezes even the Ogre’s mind.

  • InfinityYujiro’s strongest blows never arrive.
  • Infinite VoidIt overwhelms Yujiro’s mind in a quarter of a second.
  • Hard counterPure strength has no answer to manipulated space.

How the rematch could go differently: There is no version of Yujiro that can break Infinity. It is the one wall his strength will never climb.
