The Arena
Yujiro Hanma came through a strange rift into a walled city where giant naked creatures roamed outside the walls. He looked at the Titans with mild interest, then walked through the gate and killed three of them with his bare hands, just to see what they were like. On a rooftop above, a short man in a green cloak watched him do it.
Levi Ackerman landed on the street in front of him, his blades drawn. “You killed three Titans without gear.” Yujiro wiped the steam off his hands. “They were slow.” Levi narrowed his eyes. “You’re not a Titan. You’re not human either.” Yujiro grinned. “That is what everyone says.”
Levi tilted his head, studying the giant man the way he studied Titans: looking for the weak point. He did not find one.
Round One
Levi attacked like a whirlwind, spinning on his ODM gear, his blades cutting toward Yujiro’s neck, the way he cuts every Titan. Yujiro moved, faster than Levi expected, and the blades sliced across his shoulder instead. He laughed. “Fast.” Levi swung around a building and came back from behind, cutting his back.
They fought through the streets, Levi swinging between buildings at impossible speed, cutting and retreating, never staying in reach. He landed a dozen cuts across Yujiro’s arms, back and chest, each one deep enough to kill a man. Yujiro bled and laughed and kept turning to face him.
Then Yujiro grabbed one of Levi’s cables as he swung past, and pulled.
The Turn
Levi felt the cable go taut and cut it instantly with his other blade, swinging free on his remaining line before Yujiro could reel him in. Yujiro looked at the severed cable in his hand and grinned. “Clever.” Levi landed on a rooftop, breathing hard, his gas running low.
He had fought hundreds of Titans. He had never fought anything that learned. Yujiro was watching him, studying the gear, the way it moved, the way Levi anchored himself to buildings. Every exchange, the Ogre came a little closer to catching him.
Levi realised he was running out of gas, running out of blades, and running out of time.
The Finish
Levi made his final attack, spinning so fast he became a blur of steel, every ounce of his Ackerman strength behind it. The blades struck the back of Yujiro’s neck, the Titan weak point. They cut deep. They did not cut through. Yujiro’s neck muscles were simply too strong.
Yujiro reached back, caught Levi by the arm, and threw him off his back and onto the street. Levi rolled, came up with his last blade, and Yujiro knocked it from his hand. The Ogre stood over him, bleeding from twenty cuts, breathing hard, grinning wider than ever.
“You fought me like a monster,” Yujiro said. “The way you fight your giants.” Levi wiped blood from his mouth. “You’re worse than any Titan.” Yujiro laughed. “Yes.” He walked back toward the gate and out into the Titan-filled lands beyond, looking for something bigger. Levi watched him go and decided he never wanted to see the man again.
The verdict
Yujiro Hanma wins
Levi is faster than Yujiro and cuts him twenty times, but his blades are built to cut Titan necks, not a body like the Ogre’s, and Yujiro learns his gear well enough to catch him.
- DurabilityLevi’s blades cut deep but cannot cut through.
- AdaptationYujiro learns the ODM gear’s patterns.
- EnduranceLevi runs out of gas and blades; Yujiro does not tire.
How the rematch could go differently: A Levi with unlimited gas and Thunder Spears, the explosive weapons that kill armoured Titans, could do far more damage.
