The Arena
Yujiro Hanma had heard of a young man in Tokyo with a strange power, a spirit that fought beside him and could stop time. He found Jotaro Kujo waiting for a late train, his hands in his pockets, his cap pulled low. Jotaro glanced at the giant with the demon face on his back. “Yare yare.”
“They say you have a spirit that fights for you,” Yujiro said. Jotaro did not look at him. “Star Platinum.” Yujiro grinned. “Show me.” Jotaro sighed. “You don’t want me to do that.” Yujiro took a step forward. “I always want to see.”
A purple figure rose out of Jotaro’s body, muscular and fierce, its eyes blazing. Yujiro could see it. He laughed, delighted.
Round One
Yujiro punched at Star Platinum, and his fist passed straight through it, like punching smoke. Stands can only be touched by other Stands. Yujiro stared at his hand in disbelief. Then Star Platinum punched him back, a single precise blow, and the Ogre slid across the platform.
Yujiro charged again, this time at Jotaro himself. Star Platinum intercepted every attack, blocking Yujiro’s fists with its own. The Stand could touch him. He could not touch the Stand. It was the most frustrating fight of his life, and he was loving every second of it.
He feinted, slipped past the Stand and struck at Jotaro directly. Star Platinum caught his wrist an inch from Jotaro’s face.
The Turn
Yujiro roared and threw everything he had into a single attack, too fast and too strong for even Star Platinum to block completely. His fist slipped through the Stand’s guard and grazed Jotaro’s cheek, drawing blood. Jotaro touched the cut, surprised. Nobody without a Stand had ever touched him in a fight.
He adjusted his cap. “Star Platinum,” he said quietly. “The World.” Time stopped. The train station froze. Yujiro froze mid-charge, his grin fixed on his face, his fist drawn back. Jotaro walked around him slowly, looking at the frozen Ogre with something like respect.
He had five seconds. He used all of them.
The Finish
“ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA!” Star Platinum hit Yujiro with a rush of punches in the frozen moment, dozens of blows that would all land at once. Time resumed. Yujiro felt every punch at the same instant and was thrown backwards down the platform, through a vending machine, and onto the tracks.
He lay there, battered, laughing up at the station ceiling. Jotaro walked to the edge of the platform and looked down at him. “You hit me,” Jotaro said. “Nobody without a Stand has ever done that.” Yujiro climbed out of the tracks, grinning through his blood. “And nobody,” he said, “has ever stopped time on me.”
The late train pulled in. Jotaro stepped onto it. As the doors closed, Yujiro called out, “Next time, I will learn to see your spirit coming.” Jotaro adjusted his cap. “Yare yare daze,” he said, and the train pulled away into the night.
