The Arena
Vegeta was training alone in space, near the rings of Saturn, when a silver figure on a surfboard glided past him, glowing with power. Vegeta sensed it immediately: an energy far beyond anything he had felt in this universe. He flew after it and blocked its path. “You. Fight me.”
The Silver Surfer stopped, his board hovering among the ice of Saturn’s rings. “I do not wish to fight.” Vegeta crossed his arms. “I did not ask what you wished.” The Surfer studied him with calm, silver eyes. “You carry a great deal of anger. And a great deal of regret.” Vegeta’s face darkened. “Do not presume to know me.”
The Surfer said quietly, “I led a devourer to a thousand worlds. I know regret when I see it.” Vegeta’s aura flared gold.
Round One
Vegeta attacked with a barrage of ki blasts that lit up the rings of Saturn. The Surfer dodged them on his board, weaving through the ice, and answered with a beam of the Power Cosmic that hit Vegeta in the chest and threw him across the rings. Vegeta stopped himself, grinning. This was a real opponent.
They fought through the rings at blinding speed, shattering ice and rock, lighting up the dark side of Saturn with their energy. The Surfer was graceful and precise, the Power Cosmic giving him an enormous range of abilities. Vegeta was relentless, faster with every exchange, his pride driving him forward.
The Surfer turned a chunk of ice into a cage of solid light around Vegeta. Vegeta smashed through it with his bare hands.
The Turn
Vegeta went Super Saiyan Blue, his aura glowing like the hottest star, and suddenly he was faster than the Surfer could track. He hit the Surfer with a combination that knocked him off his board, and the Surfer tumbled through Saturn’s rings, his silver skin cracking.
The Surfer reached for more of the Power Cosmic and found it straining. He had never fought anyone whose power came from inside themselves, from pride and training and sheer refusal to lose. His power had been given to him. Vegeta’s had been earned through decades of being second best.
He rose again, his board returning to his feet, and fired the strongest blast he had.
The Finish
Vegeta met the blast with a Final Flash, a golden beam that pushed through the Power Cosmic and hit the Surfer square in the chest. He was thrown across the solar system, past Uranus, and stopped himself at last in the darkness beyond Neptune, his silver body cracked, his power flickering.
Vegeta flew after him and stopped in front of him, breathing hard. He did not attack again. He looked at the battered herald for a long moment. “You said you led a devourer to a thousand worlds,” he said finally. The Surfer nodded. “Do you think you will ever be forgiven?”
Vegeta was silent. Then, quietly, the Prince of all Saiyans said something he had never said to anyone. “I destroyed planets for Frieza. I still dream about them.” The Surfer looked at him with understanding. “So do I.” They floated together at the edge of the solar system for a long time, two warriors who had done terrible things and were still trying to be better.
The verdict
Vegeta wins
The Silver Surfer has a broader range of cosmic powers, but Vegeta’s Super Saiyan Blue power is earned, not given, and his speed and Final Flash overwhelm the Power Cosmic.
- SpeedSuper Saiyan Blue Vegeta outpaces the Surfer.
- Power scaleFinal Flash pushes through the Power Cosmic.
- PrideVegeta never stops pushing past his limits.
How the rematch could go differently: A Surfer who used his matter manipulation to trap Vegeta rather than fight him head-on could win without a clash of power.
