The Arena

Kisame Hoshigaki was hunting on a lonely island when he smelled something he had never smelled before: an enormous, ancient predator. He found it on the rocks at the shore, a giant man with wild hair, tearing a whole tuna in half with his bare hands. Pickle, the caveman revived from salt rock after millions of years, looked up and growled.

Kisame grinned his shark grin. “Well, well. A monster even bigger than me.” He drew Samehada, his living sword, covered in scales that shave away flesh and drink chakra. Pickle did not understand the words. But he understood the sword, and he understood the teeth. This was a rival predator.

He dropped the tuna and roared, a sound that had once frightened dinosaurs.

Round One

Pickle charged, and Kisame swung Samehada into his shoulder. The scales tore through skin and muscle. Kisame grinned, waiting for the sword to drain Pickle’s chakra and weaken him. Nothing happened. Samehada shook in his hands, confused. There was no chakra to eat.

Pickle grabbed the sword, pulled Kisame toward him, and bit him on the arm. Kisame howled and kicked free, and Pickle came after him with fists like boulders. Kisame was strong, monstrously strong for a ninja, but Pickle had wrestled tyrannosaurs.

Kisame rolled into the sea. If brute strength would not work, he would fight where he was strongest.

The Turn

Kisame rose from the waves and formed hand signs. A sphere of water surged out of the sea and wrapped around Pickle, trapping him inside a floating ball of water. Water Prison Shark Dance. Sharks made of chakra circled him, biting. Pickle thrashed, unable to breathe, his huge lungs burning.

Kisame laughed. “No air down there, big guy.” But Pickle had survived for millions of years encased in salt rock. He had survived the Cretaceous. His body did not panic the way a modern human body would. He stopped thrashing, waited, and found the edge of the sphere.

Then he put both hands on it and pushed with every ounce of strength in his prehistoric body.

The Finish

The Water Prison exploded outward in a wave that knocked Kisame off his feet. Pickle burst out, coughing up seawater, and charged across the rocks before Kisame could form another hand sign. He grabbed the shark-man by both shoulders and lifted him off the ground.

Kisame tried to swing Samehada. Pickle grabbed the sword and tore it from his hands, threw it into the sea, and slammed Kisame into the rocks so hard the island shook. Kisame lay there, stunned, and Pickle stood over him, roaring at the sky.

Then Pickle did something strange. He picked up the tuna, tore it in half and dropped one half on Kisame’s chest. Kisame stared at the fish, then at the caveman. “Predator to predator, huh?” he said, and laughed until his ribs hurt. Somewhere out at sea, Samehada sulked, hungry, for the rest of the day.

The verdict

Pickle wins

Kisame is a monstrously strong ninja with a sword that drains chakra and deadly water techniques, but Pickle has no chakra at all for Samehada to eat, and his prehistoric strength breaks out of the Water Prison.

  • No chakraSamehada’s chakra-draining ability does nothing to Pickle.
  • Prehistoric strengthPickle wrestled dinosaurs and breaks the Water Prison.
  • DurabilityHe survives being shaved by Samehada’s scales.

How the rematch could go differently: A Kisame who stayed in deep water and never came within Pickle’s reach could drown the caveman with patience.
