The Arena
Luffy’s ship drifted through a strange fog and came out in San Francisco Bay, and Luffy immediately jumped ashore looking for food. He found a hot dog stand, ate everything on it, and was about to leave without paying when a huge black creature with white eyes and enormous teeth landed in front of him.
“You did not pay,” Venom growled. “We eat people who do not pay.” Luffy looked up at the creature, and his eyes went wide with delight. “Woah! You’re so cool! Are you a monster? Can you stretch too?” Venom paused. Nobody had ever been delighted to see them before.
Then Luffy punched them in the face, because that is what Luffy does when he meets someone cool.
Round One
Venom flew backwards into a parked car, then rose, grinning wider than ever. They lashed out with black tendrils, and Luffy stretched out of the way, bouncing off buildings like a rubber ball. Venom grabbed his leg and slammed him into the street. Luffy bounced back up, unhurt. Rubber does not care about being slammed.
Venom tried biting. Luffy’s rubber skin stretched around their teeth and snapped back, flinging them across the street. Venom tried crushing him with their huge fists. Luffy just bounced. Venom’s whole fighting style was built on brute strength and blunt force, and Luffy was immune to blunt force.
“We do not like this,” Venom muttered. Inside the symbiote, Eddie agreed completely.
The Turn
Venom decided to do what symbiotes do best. They grabbed Luffy and began to bond with him, black ooze spreading over his body, seeping into his rubber skin, trying to take control. Luffy felt it crawling over him and laughed. “That tickles!”
The symbiote reached into his body and found something it had never encountered: a body made of rubber, stretching in every direction, and a will so stubborn and so free that it simply would not be controlled. The symbiote pushed, and Luffy’s spirit pushed back, and then Luffy activated Gear Second, his skin steaming, his blood pumping like a hurricane.
The heat poured through the rubber, and the symbiote shrieked and peeled off him, scalded.
The Finish
Luffy coated his fist in Armament Haki, turning it black and hard as steel, and hit Venom with a Gum-Gum Jet Pistol. The Haki carried through the symbiote and into Eddie, and the creature crashed into the bay, sending a wave over the docks.
Eddie Brock crawled out of the water, the symbiote retreating into his body, both of them exhausted. Luffy jumped down and crouched beside him. “That was so fun! You’re so strong!” Eddie stared up at him. “You’re insane.” Luffy laughed. “Everyone says that!” Then he looked at the symbiote peeking out of Eddie’s shoulder. “Hey, do you want to join my crew?”
Venom considered it seriously. Eddie said no, firmly, on behalf of both of them. Luffy shrugged, then paid for the hot dogs, with money Nami would later be very upset he had spent. They ate the rest of the stand together on the docks.
The verdict
Monkey D. Luffy wins
Venom is powerful and versatile, but rubber makes Luffy immune to their blunt force, his will is too free for the symbiote to control, and Gear Second’s heat and Armament Haki drive it out.
- Rubber bodyLuffy is immune to Venom’s blunt attacks.
- Unbreakable willThe symbiote cannot take control of him.
- Gear Second and HakiHeat scalds the symbiote; Haki reaches Eddie.
How the rematch could go differently: A Venom who used sharp, blade-like tendrils instead of blunt force could cut Luffy in a way rubber cannot ignore.
