The Arena
Asta fell through a portal into a quiet Japanese school courtyard, yelling at the top of his lungs, and landed right in front of a small boy with a bowl haircut who was quietly watering the school garden. Mob looked at him. Asta looked at Mob. “HI!” Asta shouted. “I’M GOING TO BE THE WIZARD KING!”
Mob flinched at the noise. Mob: 10%. “Um. Hello,” he said. “I don’t really know what that is.” Asta’s eyes lit up. “I felt something weird when I landed! Do you have magic? Let’s fight! I want to test my anti-magic!” Mob looked at his shoes. “I don’t really like fighting.”
Asta drew his giant sword anyway, grinning. Mob sighed. His meter ticked up to 20%.
Round One
Asta charged, and Mob raised his hand. A wave of psychic force pushed Asta back across the courtyard. Asta slashed at it with his anti-magic sword and felt it fade, but not completely. Some of it remained, a strange energy his sword could not fully cancel.
Asta frowned. “That’s not magic!” Mob shook his head. “It’s… psychic power, I think.” Asta laughed. “Cool! Then I’ll just have to hit you!” He charged again, faster, and Mob lifted the school bench, two bicycles and a vending machine and dropped them in his path.
Asta sliced through all of them. The objects were real, and his sword cut real objects just fine. Mob’s meter climbed. 40%.
The Turn
Asta broke through and swung the flat of his anti-magic sword at Mob’s shoulder. The protective psychic barrier around Mob cracked, and the blow landed, knocking him off his feet into the flowerbed. Mob lay there, stunned. Nobody had ever broken through his barrier with a sword before.
He sat up slowly, dirt on his face, and his meter jumped. 70%. 90%. The air around him began to shimmer. The leaves on the trees started to float. The ground beneath Asta began to crack and rise.
“Woah,” Asta said, looking around. “Okay, that’s a lot.” Mob: 100%. The sky turned dark.
The Finish
Mob did not attack Asta directly. He did not need to. He lifted the entire courtyard into the air, the ground, the garden, the school bench and Asta along with it, until Asta was standing on a floating slab of earth a hundred metres above the school, holding a sword that could cancel spells but not gravity.
Asta swung at the psychic power holding the earth up, and some of it faded, and the slab dropped ten metres and stopped again, caught by more. There was simply too much of it. Every time Asta cut through one layer, Mob had a thousand more.
Mob lowered him gently to the ground, his meter falling back to zero, and sat down in the flowerbed, embarrassed. “Sorry,” he said quietly. Asta stared at him, then burst out laughing. “That was AMAZING! You’re so strong! Let’s be rivals!” Mob looked confused, then smiled shyly. He had never had a rival before.
The verdict
Mob wins
Asta’s anti-magic can weaken and even crack Mob’s psychic power, but it was built to cancel magic, not esper energy, and at 100% Mob has far too much power for Asta to cut through.
- Not magicPsychic power is only partly cancelled by anti-magic.
- ScaleAt 100% Mob can lift entire courtyards.
- Indirect attacksMob uses the environment, which Asta’s sword cannot cancel.
How the rematch could go differently: A Black Asta who closed the distance before Mob’s meter climbed past 50% could win before the storm began.
