The Arena
Killua Zoldyck stepped out of a strange Nen portal onto a rooftop in Queens, a skateboard under his arm and a bag of chocolate robots in his pocket. Within ten seconds, a red-and-blue figure swung down from a water tower and landed upside down in front of him. “Hey! You can’t just teleport onto people’s roofs, man. Is that a superpower?”
Killua looked at the masked hero hanging from a web and instantly read him: young, strong, fast, and holding back. Killua’s family had trained him to recognise exactly that kind of person. “It’s Nen,” he said. “You’re strong. Want to see who’s faster?” Spider-Man flipped onto the roof, delighted. “Oh, I love this game.”
Killua’s hair began to crackle with static. Lightning ran down his arms.
Round One
Killua vanished, reappearing behind Spider-Man with his fingernails sharpened into claws, an assassin’s strike aimed at the back of the neck. Spider-sense screamed. Peter ducked under it without thinking and swept Killua’s legs. The boy flipped, landed on his hands and laughed in surprise. Nobody had dodged that since his brother.
They raced across the rooftops of Queens, Killua jumping from building to building with lightning-crackling footsteps, Spider-Man swinging after him. They traded blows in mid-air. Killua’s electric punches sent Peter’s muscles spasming. Peter’s super-strong kicks knocked Killua through billboards.
Peter realised the kid was stronger than he looked. Killua realised the man in the mask was hitting him at about a tenth of his real strength.
The Turn
Killua activated Godspeed. Lightning wrapped his whole body, and his reflexes became automatic, so fast that his body reacted before his brain had even processed what it saw. He blitzed Spider-Man with a hundred electric blows, and for the first time, the spider-sense could not keep up with all of them.
Peter took a hit to the ribs and another to the jaw, and the lightning made his muscles lock up for a moment. He hit the roof hard. Killua stood over him, crackling, and hesitated. He did not want to kill this person. He did not even want to hurt him very badly. That was new.
Peter used the moment. He fired a web at Killua’s skateboard, yanked it out from under his feet, and the boy fell flat on his back.
The Finish
Godspeed burns through Nen fast, and Killua was running out. He came back in with his last lightning strike, and Spider-Man, who had been watching closely, timed his dodge to the exact moment the spark began. He let it pass, grabbed Killua’s wrist and wrapped him in a cocoon of webbing from his shoulders to his ankles.
Killua struggled, then sighed and lay back on the rooftop, his lightning fizzling out. “You held back the whole time,” he said. Peter sat down next to him, panting. “So did you. You could have gone for my throat. You didn’t.”
Killua was quiet for a moment. “My family wanted me to be an assassin,” he said. “My friend Gon says I should just be a hero.” Peter cut him loose and offered him a hand. “Your friend sounds smart.” They spent the evening eating chocolate robots on the roof and watching the sun go down over the city.
The verdict
Spider-Man wins
Killua’s Godspeed briefly outpaces even the spider-sense, but Spider-Man is stronger, more durable and far more experienced, and Godspeed burns out long before Peter does.
- StrengthSpider-Man is physically much stronger than Killua.
- ExperiencePeter has fought speedsters and electric villains for years.
- StaminaGodspeed drains Killua’s Nen quickly.
How the rematch could go differently: An adult Killua, or one who stopped holding back and fought like the assassin he was raised to be, would be far more dangerous.
