The Arena
Thanos had conquered universes. He had wiped out half of all life with a gesture. When the Gauntlet led him to a world where one bald man was said to be unbeatable, he came alone, because a Titan does not need an army to make a point.
Saitama was on his way home from a supermarket sale. He had a bag of discounted vegetables in one hand and a coupon in the other, and he was annoyed, because the purple giant was standing between him and the bus stop.
Round One
Thanos began with the Power Stone. A violet blast wide enough to erase a city district roared down the street. When the smoke cleared, Saitama was standing in a crater, holding his bag above his head. “Hey! The leeks almost got burned.”
The Titan frowned and used the Reality Stone. The street became an endless maze of mirrors. Saitama walked forward through all of them, cracking each one with his face because he could not be bothered to look where he was going. The Space Stone dropped him on the surface of a sun. He came back sunburned and complaining that it was hot.
The Turn
For the first time in an age, Thanos felt something like doubt. Every stone worked exactly as it should. None of it mattered. So he decided to end it the way he had ended half the universe. He lifted the Gauntlet, fingers ready.
Saitama finally looked interested, not in Thanos, but in the snap. “Wait, so if you do that, it just erases stuff? Like, anything?” Thanos told him that it could erase him from existence. Saitama thought about it. “Does it erase the boredom too?”
The Finish
Thanos snapped his fingers. Or he began to. Somewhere in the fraction of a second between his thumb moving and his fingers meeting, Saitama crossed the distance between them, which should not have been possible, and threw one Normal Punch.
It caught the Titan in the stomach. All six stones flew out of the Gauntlet like marbles. Thanos sailed straight up through the clouds, through the atmosphere, and became a very small purple dot that eventually landed somewhere in the next galaxy over.
Saitama picked up his shopping bag, checked that the leeks were fine, and looked down at the six glowing stones in the rubble. He kicked one of them into a storm drain by accident. “Ah, man,” he said, to nobody. “I really thought that one would be fun.” Then he caught the bus.
The verdict
Saitama wins
Saitama is a living punchline whose power has no ceiling his story ever shows. Even with the Gauntlet, Thanos cannot hurt him, and one punch ends the fight before the snap lands.
- One punchNothing in Saitama’s story has survived a serious punch from him.
- DurabilityEvery Infinity Stone attack fails to harm him.
- SpeedHe crosses the gap before the snap can finish.
How the rematch could go differently: If the snap landed first, the rules of reality itself would be tested against a character who seems to ignore them. That is the only version where Thanos has a chance.
