The Arena

Julius Reinhold has devoted his life to a single belief: a body built to perfection makes technique irrelevant. When he heard that Jack Hanma had lengthened his own bones to become a bigger fighter, he took it as a personal insult. Real strength, he said, cannot be bought with surgery.

They met in a Kengan arena, both well over two metres tall, both covered in scars. The crowd went silent as they faced each other. Even the referee took a step back.

Round One

Julius moved first, a battering-ram straight right that would have caved in most men’s chests. Jack took it on the chin, rocked back, and grinned through a split lip.

They traded like two mountains colliding, every punch ringing through the arena. Julius was stronger; every blow he landed shook Jack to his feet. But Jack did not care about damage. He only cared about reaching Julius.

Julius drove Jack across the arena with a series of body shots, each one like being hit by a swinging girder. Ribs cracked. The crowd heard them. Jack spat blood onto the canvas and laughed out loud, then answered with a looping hook that split Julius’s cheek to the bone. For a moment both giants stood toe to toe, breathing like bulls.

The Turn

Julius had studied every fighter in the Kengan world. He had not studied a man who fought with his teeth. When Jack lunged inside a punch and bit down on his shoulder, Julius roared in fury and hammered him with blows that would have killed an ordinary man.

Jack held on. He bit deeper, through muscle, his jaw locked like a bear trap. Julius’s strength began to drain with the pain and the blood.

The arena went silent except for Julius’s roars. He drove his knee into Jack’s ribs, pounded his back, tried to tear him off by the hair. Jack held on with the patience of a man who has spent his life wanting to be stronger than anyone, his eyes calm above the bite.

The Finish

Julius tore free at last, his shoulder ruined, his right arm hanging. He tried to fight on with his left, and Jack, spitting blood, drove forward with relentless, wild strikes.

A knee to the stomach doubled Julius over. A hammer-fist to the back of the neck put him on the canvas. He tried to push himself up on one arm and could not.

Jack stood over him, panting. “Your body is beautiful,” he said, without irony. “But you only trained it. I ate.” Julius, face against the mat, laughed bitterly. “Animal,” he said. Jack took it as a compliment.

The verdict

Jack Hanma wins

Julius may be the stronger pure physique, but he dismisses technique, and Jack’s biting is a technique his body was never built to defend, while Jack’s pain tolerance carries him through Julius’s heaviest blows.

  • BitingA weapon Julius has never trained against.
  • Pain toleranceJack absorbs Julius’s best punches while closing in.
  • RuthlessnessJack keeps attacking once Julius is injured.

How the rematch could go differently: A Julius who kept Jack at arm’s length with his reach and power could win a decision before Jack ever got close.
