The Arena

Batman tracked a stolen shipment of vibranium through a rift, all the way into the jungles of Wakanda, and walked straight into a security net that had been watching him for six kilometres. T’Challa dropped from the trees in front of him, silent as rain, his vibranium suit gleaming faintly in the dark.

“You are in my country without permission,” the king said. “And you are carrying stolen Wakandan technology.” Batman did not move. “I was tracking the thieves. They went through you.” T’Challa tilted his head. “So you say. My people will decide. After you surrender.”

Batman did not surrender. He never does. He threw a smoke pellet, and both men vanished into the jungle.

Round One

For an hour they hunted each other in the dark. Batman set traps with explosive gel and cable lines. T’Challa avoided every one, his enhanced senses picking up the faint chemical smell. T’Challa struck from the trees with silent claws. Batman sensed him coming and countered with a kick that knocked the king back into a trunk.

When they finally met in the open, it was two masters of combat colliding. Batman was the better improviser, mixing dozens of styles at once. T’Challa was a superb martial artist too, but faster, stronger and enhanced by the heart-shaped herb.

Batman landed a perfect combination to T’Challa’s chest. The vibranium suit glowed violet, absorbing every ounce of force.

The Turn

Batman noticed the glow. He realised what it meant just a fraction of a second too late. T’Challa smiled behind the mask, raised his palm and released the kinetic energy his suit had absorbed: every punch, every kick, every explosion from Batman’s traps, all at once.

The blast threw Batman across the clearing and through a stand of trees. He landed hard, cape torn, ribs cracked, his body screaming. He rolled up into a crouch anyway, already analysing. He could not hit the suit without powering it. He needed another approach.

He switched to electricity, an EMP grenade designed to fry high-tech armour. T’Challa’s suit flickered for a moment, then adapted. Wakandan technology had been built with that in mind for centuries.

The Finish

Batman tried one last plan, luring T’Challa onto ground he had rigged with explosives. T’Challa read the soil, smelled the chemicals and leapt clear, then landed on Batman from above. Batman fought back with everything he had, but every blow he landed only charged the suit further.

T’Challa ended it with a single strike to Batman’s chest, releasing just enough stored energy to lift him off his feet and lay him flat in the mud. The rain kept falling. T’Challa stood over him, then knelt and offered his hand.

“You fought well,” the king said. “And you were telling the truth. My people found the thieves an hour ago.” Batman took his hand and got to his feet slowly. “You knew.” T’Challa smiled. “I wanted to see what the famous detective could do. Come. Wakanda would like to compare notes.”

The verdict

Black Panther wins

Batman matches T’Challa in skill and planning, but Black Panther is a peak-enhanced fighter in a vibranium suit that turns Batman’s own blows into a weapon, and he knows the terrain.

  • Vibranium suitIt absorbs kinetic energy and fires it back.
  • EnhancementThe heart-shaped herb gives T’Challa superhuman speed, strength and senses.
  • Home terrainThe fight is in Wakanda, and T’Challa knows every tree.

How the rematch could go differently: In Gotham, with weeks to prepare and research the vibranium suit, Batman would come in with a plan nobody else could imagine.
