The Arena

A crack between worlds merged a corner of Gotham with a corner of New York for one night, and two vigilantes found themselves hunting the same criminal across the same rooftops. Batman landed on a gargoyle. Moon Knight landed on a water tower. Each of them saw the other at the same moment.

“You’re in my city,” Batman said. Moon Knight tilted his white-hooded head. “Which one of us are you talking to?” Batman paused. Inside Moon Knight’s head, three voices argued: Marc wanted to fight, Steven wanted to talk, Jake wanted to see if this guy was any good. Khonshu, the moon god, simply wanted violence.

Jake won the argument. Moon Knight threw a crescent dart.

Round One

Batman caught the dart out of the air and threw a batarang back. Moon Knight deflected it with his staff and closed in. They fought across the rooftops, two masters of hand-to-hand combat, and Moon Knight was stronger, his strength rising with the full moon overhead. He hit Batman with a staff strike that cracked his armour.

Batman was more precise. He absorbed the blows, studied the patterns, and landed counters that hit pressure points Moon Knight did not even know he had. Moon Knight staggered, laughed in a voice that was not quite his own, and came back harder.

Then his fighting style changed completely, mid-combination. Different stance, different rhythm, different person. Batman noticed instantly.

The Turn

Moon Knight kept switching personalities mid-fight: Marc’s brutal mercenary style, Jake’s dirty street fighting, Steven’s hesitant defence. Each one was dangerous, and each one changed the rhythm of the fight. Most opponents never figured out what was happening.

Batman figured it out in ninety seconds. He began to fight each personality differently: pressing Steven when he hesitated, outmanoeuvring Jake’s tricks, and luring Marc into the overconfident attacks Marc always made. Every time Moon Knight switched, Batman was already ready for the next one.

Inside Moon Knight’s head, the three voices began to argue louder than ever, blaming each other.

The Finish

Batman used the argument. He threw a smoke pellet, and in the cloud he spoke to each personality by name, the way a detective speaks to suspects. Marc, he said, you’re losing. Steven, you never wanted this. Jake, he’s laughing at you. The voices turned on each other, and Moon Knight froze for one crucial second.

One second was enough. Batman swept his legs, pinned him to the rooftop and cuffed him to a pipe with a reinforced zip tie. Moon Knight struggled, all three personalities suddenly united in outrage. It was too late.

Batman crouched in front of him. “You have three people in your head,” he said quietly. “And a god. That must be exhausting.” Moon Knight, for once speaking with a single voice, said, “You have no idea.” Batman cut the tie and left him a card with the name of a therapist. Moon Knight kept it. He never told anyone.

The verdict

Batman wins

Moon Knight is stronger under the full moon and his switching personalities confuse most opponents, but Batman works out the pattern within minutes and turns the three voices against each other.

  • Detective skillBatman identifies and counters each personality.
  • PsychologyHe uses the internal argument to create an opening.
  • PrecisionHis counters land where Moon Knight’s strength cannot help.

How the rematch could go differently: A Moon Knight whose personalities worked together from the start, with Khonshu’s full power, could overwhelm Batman.
